This exceptional ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessel is an excellent piece from the Zhou Dynasty. The vessel is cast with a wide mouth and flared rim, featuring a pair of robust loop handles each adorned with stylized animal masks, typical of archaic bronze Chinese forms. Its body displays vertical ribbed sections that alternate with rectangular registers filled with geometric meander patterns, typical of the intricate designs of this period. Notable also are the raised taotie mask motifs incorporated into the decorative band encircling the upper portion of the vessel. The entire piece is covered in a green patina, with areas of reddish-brown earthen encrustation evident inside and out. The footed base is slightly everted, balancing the proportions of the vessel. A Worcester Flight, Barr & Barr blue ground inkstand, circa 1840, of scalloped rectangular form, with gilt beaded edge, the inkwells polychrome painted with flowers, the handle with mask decoration, on four scroll feet, printed mark, 27cm acrossThe knops on the covers have been restored. There is some restoration on the rim of the right inkwell, and to an area at the top of the stand. Otherwise in good condition.

It is purported to have been cast between 1959 and 1962, from the original Rodin sculpture at the Royal Academy whilst it was on loan, by artists Jonathan Trowell and James Osborne.

An ebonised table clock signed William Tomlinson, London, circa 1700, the gilt metal mounted case with folding brass figural cast handle, the 17.5cm dial signed above strike/silent lever, with gilt winged mask spandrels, silvered chapter ring, mock pendulum and date apertures to the centre, seven pillar verge movement with foliate engraved signed backplate, pull repeat on 4 bells and striking on a further bell, all on disc and claw brass feet 38cm high (handle folded), 28cm wide Noted that the crown wheel escapement needs some attention as the escapement does not interlock properly and the wheel jumps around as the pendulum swings. The pull quarter repeat is currently working. Brass retaining brackets look later and there are different position holes to case side for previous fixing (?) Possibly a married case therefore. Some age scratches to the case; replacement hinges to both doors. Private ownership of a deceased collector. Please see photos.

A cast iron garden planter, with lion mask and vase and swag decoration. Height 66 cm, width 69 cm, depth +/- 35 cm (see illustration).The planter has come straight from the garden and shows signs of corrosion and debris. However, there are no holes and it is in generally good order. The seam at the front is held together at the rear by lugs with three bolts in each section.

Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, chips, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.There are some old repairs to the legs with some metal braces where the legs meet the base of the cellaret. Intact and useable with just some small movement to some legs.The interior large bottle removeable section has some cracks.The lid holds itself firmly.There is no key for the original lock.Of strong Gillows design with a classical line, outset corners, quality reedings and mouldings; the grand scale size and good cuts of well figured timber also typical of Gillows work in this Regency period.Please see all the additional condition report photographs through the link on the condition report email as a visual reference of condition - they are a vital part of this report. BP). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. The brass banding of clean and polished appearance with some lifting/ bending, it is possible that this is a later replacement, see images. The handles also of clean and polished appearance.
