Rolex a Reference 5513 Gentleman's stainless steel submariner wristwatch, the bezel with long 5 insert, the gilt signed meters first and Swiss at 6, dial with lume pot hour markers, Mercedes hands, screw down triplock crown, fitted with a calibre 1520 26 jewel self winding movement serial number 1335569, the case back marked inside with Reference number and dated 1.66, and mounted on stainless steel riveted oyster bracelet, the end links numbered 60, the fold over clasp dated 3.66, case diameter 39mm.When Rolex launched the Submariner in 1953 as one of the world's first dive watches, designed to withstand pressure and accurately measure time underwater it soon became not just a tool watch for divers but a style icon. The Submariner has large white tritium hour markers and Mercedes hands against a contrasting black dial, ensuring legibility in low visibility conditions. Worn by famous figures of the time as Jacques Cousteau the French underwater explorer, Che Guevara, and James Bond, with Sean Connery famously sporting a big crown Sub in 'Dr. No', 'Goldfinger', and 'Thunderball'. This version the Reference 5513 was the longest-running Submariner, produced from 1962 to 1989, with rare pointed crown guards replaced by rounded ones. It uses the calibre 1520/1530 movement and has a non-chronometer certified dial with two lines of text. Early executions had a rare 'meters first dial', printing the depth rating in meters before feet, which was later switched to feet first for the US market.
