A pith helmet contained in a bespoke toleware case, inscribed J R P Montgomery, 52nd Light Infantry case 36cm longProvenance: John Rupert Patrick Montgomery MC OBE (25th July 1913 – 27th June 2008)John Rupert Patrick Montgomery was born on 25th July 1913 in Bromyard, Herefordshire, England. He graduated from the Royal Military College in September 1933 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the 1st Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry.During the Second World War, Montgomery served with distinction. In August 1943, he held the rank of Captain, acting as a temporary Major in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. On the 8th May 1943, he commanded the left forward company of the 7th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during an attack south of Gastla Wadi, north of Enfidaville, Tunisia. Under his leadership, the unit captured strategic high ground and held their position despite intense enemy counter-attacks. For this action, Montgomery was awarded the Military Cross (MC). His citation reads:"On the 8th of May 1943, Major Montgomery commanded the left forward company of 7th Oxf & Bucks when they captured the high ground south of Gastla Wadi, north of Enfidaville & exploited to the Wadi itself. During the attack he led his company with skill & determination, quickly crushing enemy resistance. So successfully did he reorganise the left of the position on the Wadi, which formed a deep salient into the enemy lines, that he beat off all enemy counter-attacks. His position was enfiladed & commanded by mountainous country with the enemy continually attempting to infiltrate into it & subjecting it to accurate MG & Mortar fire. In spite of fighting at close quarters, the enemy never succeeded in gaining a foothold. In this action Major Montgomery showed courage & leadership of a high standard & his determination & disregard of personal safety was a great inspiration & incentive to all ranks in their successful & spirited defence."Recommended by:Lieutenant Colonel Ralph Cyril Cruddas, Commanding Officer, 7th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light InfantryMajor General Douglas Alexander Henry Graham, Commander, 56th (London) DivisionGeneral Henry Maitland Wilson, Commander-in-Chief, Middle East ForcesBetween 31st January 1944 and 11th June 1944, he served as an Instructor at the Tactical School, Middle East Land Forces. Registration – NVC 980WChassis No. – GVADJ1AG513984M.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 59,959This classic 1980 MGB Roadster is reassuringly described as a really nice example that has been well cherished. The odometer reads just 55,959 miles and the vendor describes this as “genuine”. They say their duration of ownership is 12 years, and the car has had just five previous keepers. “It has always been kept in the garage when not in use, and also throughout the winter months”. As such, it is in good overall condition, with just minor wear and tear. All tyres, including the spare, are in “great condition” and ‘NVC980W’ has a relatively new stainless steel backbox exhaust.‘NVC980W’, which was registered on 1 August 1980, also has an extensive history, says the vendor. This includes many years of paperwork and even a collection of original tax discs. Both a cover and soft-top hood are included. Period features such as the polished wire wheels and rear luggage rack are charming details too.The MGB was revealed in 1962 and remained in production until 1980. The archetypal British classic sports car, well over half a million were produced, and support for the Abingdon-built model remains superb even today. The two-seat soft-top Roadster was the core model, while there was also an MGB GT 2+2 coupe, a six-cylinder MGC and eight-cylinder MGB GT V8. The model was continuously evolved during its lifetime, with key changes including a new dashboard in 1972 and the well-known ‘rubber bumpers’ in 1974. The MGB was later revived as the MG RV8 by Rover Group in 1992, using bodyshells from British Motor Heritage. In summary:1980 MGB RoadsterOdometer reads less than 60,000 milesCherished car includes many years of paperwork

The 1968 MG C is an iconic British sports car that represents a fascinating blend of performance and style from the 1960s. The MG C was a bold departure from the MG B, as it was designed to deliver more power, a larger engine, and a refined driving experience. Manufactured by MG (Morris Garages) from 1967 to 1969, the MG C was positioned as a more performance-oriented version of the popular MG B, yet it maintained the same classic roadster look that enthusiasts admire. At the heart of the MG C Roadster is its 3.0 litre straight-six engine, which was a significant upgrade over the MG B's 1.8-litre four-cylinder. This engine produced 145bhp and 180 lb-ft of torque, making it notably more powerful and capable of achieving a top speed of around 120 mph. The engine was coupled with a four-speed manual transmission, and it featured an improved suspension system to handle the extra weight and power. With its new performance-oriented specs, the MG C offered a more thrilling driving experience, particularly on open roads and twisty backcountry lanes. Visually the 1968 MG C Roadster retains the classic MG styling, with a sleek, low-slung body, chrome bumpers, and smooth, elegant lines. The car’s front grille, which was more pronounced than the MG B’s, gave it a bolder appearance. Inside, the MG C Roadster featured traditional British craftsmanship, including a well-appointed dashboard, comfortable leather seats, and a simple yet functional design. However, the MG C Roadster’s production was short-lived, largely due to its relatively high price compared to the MG B and some performance issues with its extra weight. Despite this, the MG C Roadster has become a highly sought-after classic, appreciated for its unique combination of power, style, and nostalgia. This delightful MG C was originally supplied to the US market and repatriated to the UK in 1989 with registration here taking place on 14th November 1989. Restoration work has clearly been carried out and we would assume the car was converted to right hand drive format at the same time. The car presents very well in red with contrasting black trim, a wooden dash and additional gauges have been fitted improving the interior aesthetics. With good brightwork and sitting proudly on chrome wire wheels, this MG C roadster is reported to drive with no known faults. The straight-six three litre powerplant is a reliable unit and propels the MG C along with alacrity. Supplied with a history folder and an MoT test certificate valid until 4th October 2025. The MG C is a quintessentially British built motorcar and continues to attract collectors and driving enthusiasts alike. Consigned by Stewart Banks. A WOODEN DASH HAS BEEN FITTED ALONG WITH SOME ADDITIONAL GUAGES
Earlier restorationClassic colour combinationThe 1948 MG TC is a quintessential British sportscar that played a crucial role in popularising European roadsters in the U.S. after World War II. With its classic pre-war styling, it featured flowing lines, a tall grille, wire wheels, and a lightweight chassis. Powered by a 1.3 litre inline-four engine producing around 54bhp, it wasn’t exceptionally fast but offered a thrilling driving experience. The TC had a four-speed manual transmission and a stiff suspension setup, making it a favourite among enthusiasts. Its charm, simplicity, and engaging handling helped lay the foundation for the American sportscar craze of the 1950s.This delightful, enthusiast-owned TC presents in the ever-popular colour combination of Racing Green with a contrasting beige interior and beige roof. Originally registered and used in the UK, this MG was subsequently exported to the U.S. but has been back where it was manufactured since 2016. We are informed that this quintessentially English car fired up first time and performed well on a recent test and is a joy to drive. Offered to auction with a V5C registration document and a small amount of paperwork, this MG is ready for the summer with a new owner. Consigned by Dominic Lake Interested parties should note that contrary to the catalogue description, this MG is fitted with its original 1250cc engine and not the 1600cc mentioned. • Fitted with a V8 engine• Has power steering fitted• Chrome bumper conversionThe MGB was first introduced in May 1962 as a direct replacement for the MGA. Ken Costello saw the possibility of fitting the larger aluminium 3528cc Rover P5B engine into the MGB GT having been sure that the handling and braking could be made to match the much-improved performance; not that it needed significant changes as the V8 weighed in at around 40 pounds lighter than the four-cylinder iron blocked engine it replaced. Space was not a problem as the car had originally been designed for fitment of a V4 that was never produced. It was not until two years after the first Costello car that MG decided to follow suit. Due to their popularity and reliability, the club support is excellent with many still on the road especially as their fixedhead cousins are still very affordable. This 1979 registered MGB was originally built for the U.S. and was repatriated to the U.K. in 1997. Upon arrival in the U.K. this MGB Roadster was stripped and restored. It was changed to right hand drive guise and a V8 engine from a Rover SD1 fitted. A great addition to this lovely MGB is power steering and chrome bumpers. It was repainted in Aston Martin Tudor Green which is complemented by a black interior. Whilst probably not for the purest, this MGB Roadster is a great specification and offers plenty of fun. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 1st April 2026 (with no advisories). A comprehensive history folder accompanies this Roadster. MGs’ are well supported by several specialists resulting in a motorcar that is, not only straight forward to maintain but also great fun to drive. Upgraded specificationTwo-time Cape to Cape rally entrantThe MGC was the first 'high performance' version of the MGB. From early on in the design stages of the MGB there was an intention to create high performance variants, using a range of Vee engines that did not make it to production. The MGC was much more than a tuned MGB, in fact it was a completely re-engineered car, but retained many visual connections to the MGB. On the outside the MGC was often mistaken for an MGB as the only visual difference was the heavily bulged bonnet with a transverse chrome strip that accentuated the bulges, and the standard use of 15” wheels instead of the 14” used on the MGB. Inside there were very few differences between the B and C, other than the 140mph speedometer and tachometer with a yellow and red banding, set against lower RPM than the MGB. This lovely example was purchased in 2018 after much deliberation to partake in a charity classic car run. Two enthusiastic petrol heads decided upon the Cape to Cape rally from Cape Trafalger in Spain to Cape Cornwall, a near 3,000 mile undertaking. After careful consideration they settled on an MGC to use and TVV 68F was purchased. The car in 2019 completed the charity Cape to Cape rally but was also one of only two to not require the help of any support crew with the owner stating it behaved faultlessly. Lockdown came about and the car was used infrequently until 2022 when the owner decided to once again complete the Cape to Cape which in 2022 started in Cape Cornwall driving to Cape Wrath then over to Ireland to Cape Clear and finally driving back to Cape Cornwall via Wales, some 3,500 miles in 14 days, again completing this time with just the need for a new fuel pump when a brand new unit had failed on day one. The event raised over a £1 million and this plucky MGC was a key entrant. To enjoy such an event this MGC was not a standard car, the specification is quite impressive, the engine has a gas flowed head, Multi branch exhaust manifold, MGM2 camshaft, vernier timing gear, lightened and balanced flywheel, MG Motorsport distributor, uprated oil cooler and radiator and full stainless steel exhaust system. The front suspension benefits from uprated torsion arms, a telescopic damper conversion, Spax adjustable shock absorbers and a Poly bushed quickrack. Th rear has Parabolic springs also telescopic damper conversion and Spax adjustable shock absorbers. To further assist a heated front screen was fitted, Alloy ‘knock on’ wheels with Uniroyal rain sport tyres, uprated headlights, MGB servo and a lovely wood rim steering wheel. A wonderful little classic car, perfect for short or indeed longer journeys with a fantastic shine and finish… indeed this would grace many shows as it would timed rallies but is equally at home pottering around on a Sunday afternoon, perfect British classic car ownership. Substantial history fileConcours winnerOlder restorationThe 1950 MG TD combined the TC's drivetrain, a modified hypoid-geared rear axle, the MG Y-Type chassis, a familiar T-Type style body and independent suspension using coil springs from the MG Y-Type saloon. Also new was rack and pinion steering, smaller 15" disc type road wheels, a left hand drive option and standard equipment bumpers with overriders. The car was five inches wider with a track of 50". In 1950, the TD Mk. II was introduced alongside the standard car, featuring a more highly tuned engine with 8.0:1 compression ratio giving 57bhp at 5500rpm. It also featured twin fuel pumps, revised dampers and a higher rear axle ratio. Nearly 30,000 MG TD's were manufactured, including 1,700 Mk. II models. When the series ended in 1953, all but 1,656 were exported with 23,488 of them to the United States. An example tested by 'The Motor' magazine in 1952 had a top speed of 77mph and could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 18.2 secondsSold new from Abington to South Africa in 1950, the MG TD offered here presents beautifully. Repatriated to the UK in 1992, it underwent a full nut and bolt restoration that was finished to a high enough standard to demand a £33,995 asking price when later sold on by Martin Ingham in 2016. Indeed, the insurance valuations consistently support this and whilst the car shows some patina now, it still presents beautifully. Reported by the vendor to run and drive very well, the car is also reported to have had an interesting life before it made its way home to the UK. The story quoted in the supplied magazine article states that when the regime change began in South Africa, the owners were told to leave but weren’t allowed to take any cash with them. They were, however, allowed to take a container full of belongings with them. They quickly sold as much as they could and bought gold Krugerrands and diamonds, then filling every cavity of the MG from the petrol tank to chassis box sections and put the car in the container which got them past the checks and allowed them to start a new life in the United States.Supplied with V5 registration document, an abundance of paperwork, correspondence and magazine articles, this former show winner presents great value at a fraction of its prior purchase price and is only offered for sale due to the vendor no longer being able to drive it. On his own initiative he went forward of his Platoon with a small party of men, overran many of the enemy and cleared up a large area of enemy resistance. Alone, showing complete disregard for his own personal safety, he attacked an enemy MG post and killed the crew with his TMC, captured the MG and returned to his Platoon.Later, now single handed, he went forward to another MG post, he captured the enemy gun crew and with their weapon brought them back to our line. Had these enemy MGs not been silenced they would have taken very heavy toll on L-Sgt Smiths Company, which in turn may well have prejudiced the security of the whole of the Croce feature.Apart from these two outstanding incidents, L-Sgt Smith set a very high example of leadership and military qualities and his whole conduct was in the very highest tradition of the Service.'Ronald Arthur George Smith was born on 8 April 1920 at Hornsey, London and was a cabinet maker upon his joining the Territorial Army in June 1940. He was to join the 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers in October 1940.Smith served with his unit in Iraq, joining PAIFORCE as Lance-Corporal in November 1942.
