A RARE PAIR OF FRENCH FAIENCE POTTERY BELLOWS ATTRIBUTED TO OLÉRYS-LAUGIER MOUSTIERS, CIRCA 1730 TO 1740 Decorated in relief with baroque grotesque motifs, The ventilation hole formed from the mouth of a satyr mask 49cm long, 25cm wide Comparable bellows of this ornate form and decorative style are rare, possibly because of the inherent fragility of the medium and intended use. However a comparison can be drawn with a similar signed pair of bellows sold at Rob Michiels Auctions Belgium, 26th June 2017, lot 293 (Price incl. premium: € 9.100) and catalogued "A blue and white French faience bellows with grotesques, signed for Laugier-Olerys, Moustiers, 18th C." A Moustiers French faience part service, 20th century, painted with an exotic bird amidst flowers and foliage beneath a butterfly, in shades of green, yellow and blue, within simple scroll moulded rims, including large plates, small plates, dessert plates, oval platters, a pierced footed basket, coffee cups and saucers, a moustache cup, a tureen and cover, jugs and serving items (some faults).
A very large French faience charger in the Moustiers 18th Century style, tin-glazed earthenware with painted grotesque and mythical beasts in magenta. Bears a Moustier Olerys-Laugier "L P" signature monogram mark, but probably a 19th Century copy by Edme Samson & Cie. 45.5 cm diameter by 5 cm deep. Condition: An old restoration to the rim at approx 8 o'clock evident and now discolouring. Would benefit from reconservation.
