TOUMANOVA TAMARA: (1919-1996) Russian-born, Georgian and later American ballet Dancer. A renowned prima Ballerina and also Actress. Toumanova was a Parisian child of exile after the 1917 Russian Revolution. She made her debut at the age of 10 at the children's ballet of the Paris Opera. She became known internationally as one of the Baby Ballerinas of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo after being discovered by balletmaster and choreographer George Balanchine. Signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph by Toumanova, the image depicing her in costume as Clio Dulaine for the film Saratoga Trunk (1945), in half length pose. Signed and inscribed in bold blue fountain pen ink `Best wishes - Tamara Toumanoiva´, to a clear area of the image. Bearing to the verso the photographer´s ink stamp. Accompanied by a small 4to T.L.S. `T. Toumanova´, one page, to Mr. Morrison, answering to his letter asking for a signed photograph, and explaining he did not have any from the film Tricorn, and sending this one instead. VGThe present photograph was taken during tests that Tamara Toumanova did as candidate to this role in Sam Woods´ film Saratoga Drunk. Both Eleanor Parker and Tamara Toumanova tested for the part of Clio Dulaine, but the role was finally given to Ingrid Bergman, starring the film alongside Gary Cooper.
