A 19th century German earthenware pewter-mounted stein - of globular baluster form with moulded decoration of a cavalier and a friar at a tavern table, incised gothic-style script to both sides and the neck, the domed pewter lid with anthemion thumbpiece, on a stepped pedestal foot, with faint painted mark 'No 20', 22.5cm high, old chips and glaze loss to foot.* Two chips and a patch of glaze loss to edge of foot. Glaze crazing throughout. Slight split to pewter just below thumbpiece, but it is very old damage and stable.
