James Hall of Newcastle-Late19th century mahogany longcase clock c1870, with a swan necked pediment and break arch hood door beneath flanked by ring turned pilasters, trunk with half-round inset pilasters and a short panelled trunk door, on a square plinth with a recessed panel, painted dial with spandrels depicting country cottages and a coastal scene of a child and fisherman to the arch, with Roman numerals, minute track, date and seconds dial and stamped brass hands, dial attached via a false plate to a rack striking movement striking the hours on a bell. With weights and pendulum. James Hall is recorded as working from King Street Newcastle-upon-Tyne from 1850 onwards. This clock was the subject of a detailed article on both the clock and maker, published in CLOCKS magazine in 2009. A clockmaker by the name of John Phillips is recorded as working in Bromyard (Worcs) in the early to mid 18th century, certainly by 1770-90. W. AN ANGLO-INDIAN ROSEWOOD & IVORY TABLE BUREAU CABINET early 19th century, constructed in two sections and inlaid with elaborate scrolling bands of flowers and leaves, surmounted by a pediment incorporating an opposing pair of makara and subsidiary deer, the cabinet comprising a central bank of four graduated drawers flanked by pigeon holes and further banks each of three drawers and enclosed by a pair of side-hinged doors, the bureau with a fall-front supported by extending lopers, opening to reveal an arrangement of three central pigeon holes above a drawer, flanked by concealed letter compartments masked by pilasters and further banks each of three drawers with outsweeping outer corners, the base with divisions and fitted with a removable mirror, the whole raised on bracket feet, overall 91cm high, 61.5cm wide, 28.5cm deep, the mirror plate 20cm x 25.5cm. NOTE: Greenslade Taylor Hunt have applied for a de minimis exemption certificate for the ivory in this lot (Ref: 8GVEGZ29). Condition Report : Structurally sound; pediment with one deer and one floral detail cleanly detached (easily re-instated, as per supplied images), and with some closed splits to ivory inlay and small losses; cabinet lacking approximately two-thirds of the upper rear edge ivory inlay (unseen beneath pediment when in place); the interior main surface with some splits and now crazed old repairs; one door with small loss around hole for knob; cabinet with loss to lower left corner edging (unseen when in situ on the bureau); the fall front with a closed split of almost full-width below the uppermost band of inlay; the body with splits to the base sides, and with some splits to the lower front ivory edging strips; additional small losses to the ivory, and slight isolated lifting, but generally complete and presenting well. Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting (where possible) any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.

It does run for a while then stops probably as it needs levelling and setting up properly. It is currently not striking and will need some attention. The case is in good order apart from some missing blind fretwork to the pediment
