TOM AND JERRY (1940-1968) - Framed 'Heavenly Puss' US One-Sheet, 1949 - Linen-Backed - A US One-Sheet for the 1949 short film Heavenly Puss starring Tom and Jerry. Created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the perpetually and amusingly embattled cat and mouse Tom and Jerry became two of the most popular cartoon characters ever created. In the film, Tom ascends towards Heaven after accidentally being crushed by a piano. He is given an hour to get Jerry to sign a Certificate of Forgiveness to get access or face eternal torment.Conservation linen-backed with a fair amount of restoration done to a very high standard. Several areas of paper replacement most significantly around the border as well as a few smaller areas within the image. Schumann, Clara (1819-1896) Autograph musical quotation and signed cabinet card Autograph musical quotation from a work by her husband, Robert Schumann, inscribed to Robert Weigert[?], dated 1865 and signed, on a folded sheet, 23.5 x 35cm;Cabinet card with a photograph of Clara Schubert at the piano, by Elliott & Fry, signed by Clara Schubert to the front and dedicated on the reverse: “Fräulein Caroline Geissler [possibly Caroline Geisler-Schubert]… Frankfurt 25 Novs 87”, 11 x 16.5cm (2) Born in Pressburg in 1856, Caroline Geisler (Caroline Geisler-Schubert) was the daughter of Linus Geisler and Elise Schubert, great-niece of Franz Schubert. She was a pianist and piano teacher. Between 1885 and 1888, she trained with Clara Schumann in Frankfurt. Although her name is misspelt on the cabinet card, it is possible that she was the recipient of the photograph as a girl.

A good Palais Royal ‘grand piano’ sewing box, circa 1830, the case in satinwood and raised on five part ebonised turned legs, inlaid ebony keyboard, brass oval escutcheon. The lid interior with mirror in fancy cord frame over a flush fitted red velvet tray, the mother of pearl tools comprising a pair of snowflake thread winders in circular mirror base compartments, a carved needle case with basket of flowers top gilt ferrule and oval enamel pansy motif, a thimble with gilt trim, a single blade folding knife, a pair of reels, a pair of scissors, tip to one steel blade missing, the gilt mounts to curved floral mother of pearl arms and oval loops (damage to one arm at joint), a stiletto, a tambour hook, a cut glass scent bottle with gilt screw cover complete with internal stopper, one pair of scissors lacking substituted by an ill fitting pair with gold mounts. The tray complete with squab flanked by a gilt metal embroidered pin cushion and a further compartment fitted with a pair of steel winding clamps over a fine Palais Royal ‘Souvenir’ notebook with elaborate gilt metal mounts (small crack to rear cover), containing a folding printed calendar for the year 1822, and pages with vignettes printed for the months of the year. The box, 29.5 x 20.5 x 17.5cms.
A Palais Royal musical mahogany sewing box in the form of a grand piano, circa 1830, raised on five ebony legs with gilt brass ball feet, the front with leaf pattern oval escutcheon flanked by gilt brass torchere, quiver and leaf mounts, the lid inlaid in boxwood and ebony with a keyboard. The lid interior fitted with a mirror over a flush fitted pink velvet tray with a set of four mother of pearl snowflake thread winders in circular mirror base compartments, a mother of pearl tambour hook, pair of steel bladed scissors with floral gilt mounts and carved and pierced floral and bird arms to oval loops, a mother of pearl thimble (crack and lacking oval inset), mother of pearl earspoon / tweezer (one side broken), mother of pearl quiver form needle case (lacking circular inset), two mother of pearl reels and a cut glass scent bottle with gilt metal screw cover. The lower section fitted with an operative musical box with complete sectional comb but an old replacement, moulding lacking to keyboard edge of lid, 29 x 19 x 16cms.

Her father served as Deputy Earl Marshal in the latter part of the reign of George III and early in the reign of George IV. Her uncle, Bernard Edward Howard, became the 16th Duke of Norfolk in 1815. Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari (1763-1842) was an Italian composer and singing teacher who spent most of his career in France and England. Four of his operas, I due svizzeri, II Rinaldo d'Asti, L'eroina di Raab, and Lo sbaglio fortunato premiered in the King's Theatre, London. He also composed two ballets, a Mass, and numerous piano sonatas.

Widely considered one the greatest pianists of the 20th Century. A good signed 10 x 8 photograph by Barenboim and Argerich, the image depicting both pianists seated before a Stenway & Sons piano, performing. Individually signed by Barenboim and Argerich in bold black and blue inks respectively, with their full names. VG
DOHLER THEODOR: (1814-1856) Baron Dohler. German Composer and piano Virtuoso of the Romantic period. Dohler died at the early age of 41. A good and attractive A.M.Q.S., `Th. Dohler´, one page, musical score page, large oblong 4to, Paris, 17th May 1844, to Signora Cambiasi. The musical quotation is presented to an attractive and gilt ornated score page. Sivori has cleanly penned nine bars of music, annotating to the heading the tempo of the musical quote `Presto´ . Also inscribed above his signature `Pour Madame Cambiasi, Souvenir d´amitié´ ("For Madame Cambiasi, friendship souvenir"). VG
