[Naval] An interesting collection of documents relating to the Dutch Destroyer Hr. Ms. Kortenaer (previously HMS Scorpion - taken into active service by the Royal Dutch Navy in 1945), including details of specific assignments, information for crew and a lengthy first hand account of the ship's departure from The Netherlands in 1945 for emergency active duty patrolling around the waters of the Dutch East Indies helping suppress the freedom movement “...more than two thousand Amsterdammers and family saw us off..” then the voyage hit rough waters “..seasickness has taken hold of 90% of the crew...tables & benches fell over...a tin of jam rolls from starboard to port – nobody cares, they are all much too ill!!” and at the lunch table later only 6 of the 15 officers appeared. Loading oil at Gibraltar they encounter other Dutch vessels and minesweepers heading for the Indies. And their arrival at Columbo is met by “..a harbour full of Warships, Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, Cruisers, Hunters, Minesweepers, supply ships and more, the Kortenaer gets a place alongside an English Hunter”. The 150 newcomers onboard are subject to a Baptism ceremony, where they are are shaved with huge razors and rinsed off with the fire hose before each receiving a certificate as proof they are now true seamen. On reaching their final destination at Tanjung Priok they are welcomed by Hr. Ms.Tromp, Heemskerck, Piet Hein and Van Galen along with three submarines. Detailed assignments include a landing order on Dec. 6th near Soengaihantoe after a cargo of military material was taken ashore and partly stolen, Instructions for the Spotter in Pandang “Operation Emma” Nov. 1946, reports of attacks in Kangean with orders for providing assistance, patrolling the coast around Semarang, assisting on the Island of Mendanau, Kampang Batakan and Katajaan following attacks by armed extremists etc. There are instructions for the correct proceedures during battery attacks, notes for commanders on dress codes, danger areas, patrol reports, entertainment etc on taking leave at Ceylon. Regulations concerning marriages. Quarentine rules. Notes regarding the security add guarding of the Kortenaer and port regulations at Zaandam. Other items include lists of Government furniture provided in a First Officer's cabin, notes for responding to indirect bombardment while anchored and several Marine Reunion dinner programmes, towing problems, a lecture on Destroyers, Combat role compilation guide etc and a photograph with gun crew aboard the Kortenaer. Recent service and full inspection with Precision Porsche LtdLow mileage exampleFour speed manual UK matching numbers 930This fantastic example of the iconic 930 Turbo was first registered on 5th May 1988, nearly 37 years prior to the date of the auction. Presented in its original colours of Grand Prix White over a navy blue/linen leather trim and carpets, this four speed manual turbo has a mere 50,548 on the clock and thus presents as one of the best preserved and desirable 911 Turbos money can buy. Our vendor has sadly decided to sell the car due to illness, having purchased the car in 2018 from its fifth owner who had stored the car in a dry garage for many years. For the current owner, as a retired race engineer, this was a retirement treat, a car that needed some mechanical recommissioning but that represented a very well kept, low mileage, time warp example. Upon purchase and whilst still working as a race engineer on classic F1 cars, the first port of call was to have the car worked through. Rather than do this personally, given the time and expertise needed, he decided to use the services of Peter Chambers Automotive Ltd, a Porsche specialist in Gloucestershire who the vendor knew. The detail of what followed can be found on the receipts in the history file (and online), it included a full engine and drivetrain rebuild so that this car would not skip a beat… the cost of such expertise was in excess of £38,000 and all completed in October of 2019. After a time running in the engine, our vendor has enjoyed using the car for navigation rallies and owners club meets with his partner and describes the car as an absolute joy, revelling in the turbo spool that such an 80’s icon provides.Sadly, of late our vendor has suffered ill health and with a heavy heart he has decided the car must find a new home. But true to our vendor’s ways, he wanted to make sure that the car was in perfect working order for its new owner. Since he could no longer work on the car himself, he commissioned one of the country’s leading Porsche specialists local to him, Precision Porsche Ltd, to carry out a 12,000-mile service, a few other minor maintenance jobs and to prepare a 38-page pre-purchase inspection report of the vehicle. The report can be found in the history file and online providing some of the very best confidence in such a collectable vehicle. The car itself has been fully detailed and presents fantastically retaining its originality with very little paint having been put to the car over the years, it still wears the original trim, stereo, key and key pouch and the full book pack all available. The 930 Turbo ‘Widowmaker’ has long been an iconic Porsche and low mileage examples are rare finds, a car with such incredible recent mechanical care is as rare as ‘hens’ teeth’. This car was not expected to see the open market for some time however circumstances have aligned to bring an opportunity to own one of the best privately owned and honest examples. Fitted with 2.8 litre engineRestored exampleThe Mercedes-Benz W113 roadsters, designed by Paul Bracq, were produced from 1963 through to 1971 and were known as the 'pagoda roof' SL. All models boast an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. Rear-wheel drive configuration was complemented by independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. The 230 SL made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 where the famous German engineer Fritz Nallinger introduced it as follows "It was our aim to create a very safe and fast sports car with high performance which, despite its sports characteristics, provides a very high degree of travelling comfort."This late Mercedes-Benz Pagoda example was originally registered on 16th March 1971 and presents wonderfully in blue with a contrasting cream interior. The paintwork is excellent and the trim work has been completed to a very high standard. The matching blue hood is new and complements the high quality of the works undertaken. Sold by ourselves in May 2021 as an unfinished project, this stunning Pagoda is now complete and ready to be enjoyed. At some point in the car’s life, it was fitted with a 2778cc Mercedes-Benz engine, this change is recorded on the V5C registration document which is present. Viewing is highly recommended; this desirable right hand drive automatic Mercedes-Benz is offered to auction at what can only be considered an extremely realistic price. Consigned by Dominic Lake Interested parties should note that the private registration plate shown is to be retained by the vendor and a new, age-related registration issued instead.
