John Ruskin (1819-1900), a group of four signed letters:the first addressed 'My dear Madam', outlining that he would assess her daughter's work to see if it was at the standard for the Kensington and Slade schools, the second addressed to 'My dear Barnes', acknowledging receipt of 'the papers and globes',the third addressed to Rev W Milman, 'I look on the English Parliament merely as the highest caste cricket club - and have no more interest in voting for anybody as MP than if he were only to be one of the clowns of England',the fourth addressed to P Fletcher Watson, 'Sincere thanks: - but I've too much to do now - and greatly dread post for Turner', complete with a portrait of Ruskin (4)
John Ruskin (1819-1900), two letters relating to pupils of the High School, Cork:the first addressed to John Ruskin, 1st December 1885, 'Dear Mr Ruskin, We write for the Pupils of the High School, who have been anxious to express their great satisfaction at hearing of your recovery to health, but they waited in order to be able to send you a very hearty invitation to their breaking-up Conceit. Only they fear that the present inclement weather and the long journey to Cork may prevent your acceptance. Our Lady Principal is writing to you and she will tell you much better than we can, how deeply we should enjoy your presence then, or indeed on any occasion, if you will come to see us. We would ask our Queen to exercise here authority, but that we think it would be thoughtless and selfish just now but indeed we should be proud to welcome you in our school. We would like to tell you of our successes in the Year’s Examinations, because we are very proud of two of our elder girls, one of whom, Nita, has just passed her First University Examination in Dublin, and Lattie, on the Queen’s elder maidens, has matriculated in the Royal University. Maggie, Eva, Ethel, Florrie, Susanna, Daisy and Ethel the Second, passed the Intermediate Examinations in English, Mathematics and Modern Languages. While Lattie, Daisy, Maggie Lizzie, Florrie, Lily, Lottie and Annie have all gained Certificates in Botany. We are, Dear Mr Ruskin, Your affectionate Pupils of the High School, Rose Queen',the second addressed to Mr dear Queen', 'I am quite happy with your Majesty’s letter – signed as it is by your loving subjects – and can quite peacefully wait to receive the Lady Principal’s by next post, it has not reached me with yours. She cannot tell me better than you can yourselves, what you want of me – and I should most thankfully have come - and listened – and heard – and much more than I can tell – besides, had I been able now to go anywhere. But though I am’ better’ and even, for an old man, well (or at least able for the things I chiefly wished to carry forward, I am altogether wholly unable for travelling, - and for all very delightful – as for all exciting and anxious things . I can’t let my head be turned - as it would in Ireland , when I’ve only just got it a little into order again after an illness, more serious than I care to tell you – Though I am writing quite seriously, - and not in play. But even ‘serious’ letters are forbidden me, yet a while. I hope before May day of next year to be of some use to you – even though I cannot be with you & I am always your loving and grateful servant J Ruskin' (2)

BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (1992-1995) - Framed Original Hand-Painted Background "The Man Who Killed Batman" Animation Cel - A moody and evocative preliminary background from Batman: The Animated Series, hand-painted by celebrated artist John Calmette for Episode 51, "The Man Who Killed Batman" (1993).While the final camera pan in the episode reveals a slightly modified background with a "Diamond Exchange" sign over the door, this earlier, almost identical iteration captures the distilled atmosphere of Gotham's skyline with graphic elegance and anticipation. Calmette's signature Art Deco geometry and theatrical use of light are on full display, from the looming vertical scale to the isolation of a single glowing streetlamp.Unusually, the piece is inscribed in the artist's own hand: "406 551, Diamond Exchange, sc. B60, Batman, J. Calmette", a rare dedication for internal production work. Painted on black paper rather than the usual white in animation, this was a deliberate stylistic choice by the art department to enhance the show's noir shadows and dramatic compositions. As a result, the atmosphere isn't layered on in post-production or FX cels; it's embedded in the very base of the painting. Gotham breathes here…quiet, stylised, and waiting to detonate. A beautifully preserved and highly displayable original, this is a compelling acquisition for collectors drawn to the visual world-building of the series as much as the action within it.It comes mounted within a black frame with plexiglass and features a hanging wire on the reverse. The frame displays minor marks, and the lot comes with a Warner Bros. Animation Art certificate of authenticity. Dimensions (framed): 16" x 21.75" x 1" (41 x 55 x 2.5 cm)Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Buyer's Guide.VAT Status: M
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (2004) - "Have You Seen This Wizard" Promotional Lamp Post with Lenticular Wanted Poster and Box, 2004 - An unassembled "Have You Seen This Wizard?" lamp post from the promotion of Alfonso Cuaron's fantasy sequel Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Produced by Drissi Advertising, these lamp posts were issued to high-profile cinemas to promote the film. It is rare to find one of these as a complete item, as many were disassembled and disposed of after use, with only the "Wanted" poster section retained. The lamp post is made of card and features a lenticular "Wanted" poster of Sirius Black (Gary Oldman), in which Black disappears and reappears depending on the viewing angle. Underneath the image of Black is text reading "Coming Soon", along with the film's web address. Directional signs point towards "Hogsmeade" and "Diagon Alley", and the post's two lamps are covered in shiny foil to give the impression of being lit. This example has never been assembled and is still in its original packaging. Dimensions (assembled): 255 x 87 x 80 cm (100" x 34.25" x 31.5")VAT Status: M
