Penelope Jephson (1646-1725), daughter of Maj. Gen. William Jephson (1609-1658), M.P. for Stockbridge and a substantial landowner in Mallow, County Cork. She married Simon Patrick, a prebend of Westminster and later bishop of Ely, in 1675. The Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC owns a manuscript receipt book of cookery and medical recipes complied by Jephson between 1671 and 1675. Recipe 64 is for honeyed gingerbread similar to modern Anglo-American treacle/molasses gingerbread.

Often referred to as “John de Roos of Kilravock”, the sixth Laird took great pains to recover the legal rights and title to the Barony, which he had not automatically inherited. The documents here show the complex story of the resignation and granting of various lands and titles. Hugh, the seventh Laird, well-cemented in his title and land by the 1460s, took advantage of James I's command that: “everilk lorde hafande Lands beyond the mownth, in the quhilk landis in aulde tymes thare was castells, fortalyces and maner places, big, reparel and reforme thar castells and manors, and dwell in thaim be thaim self or be ane of thare frends, for the gracious governall of their lands, be gude polising, and to expende the froyte of thai landis in the cuntre whare the lands lyis.” Accordingly, in 1461, the licence to build what would become Kilravock Castle's keep was issued by the Lord of the Isles and can be found here.

A folio manuscript cookery book entitled Book of receipts Sept: ye 30th 1695, compiled by Alice Phelipps (and her descendants), circa 1695-1840, 268 pages in total, including 250 numbered pages, plus 4 unnumbered leaves (including title and names of the contributors to front endpaper), and 18 unnumbered leaves at end, the majority containing manuscript cookery receipts and some medical remedies, compiled by Alice Phelipps and her descendants Elizabeth Phelipps, Maria Phelips, A. H. E. A very fine large Tunbridge Ware double tea caddy with a view of Eridge Castle to lid & Holy Trinity Church Tunbridge Wells and butterflies to the front, mid 19th century, of sloping sarcophagus form, the back with cube work panel, the lid opening to reveal precision sliding twin caddy compartments each with intricate butterfly panels and shaped borders to hinged covers, opening to reveal tin paper lining, cut glass mixing bowl, the inner lid with floral vase decoration, raised on four bun supports, original key and working lock, 35.5 x 19.5cm., 21.5cm. high.* Exquisite, comes with original antique shop receipt, dating 15/5/98.
