A LIFE SIZE CERAMIC MODEL OF ARIADNE / MAENAD, standing with a panther by her left side, with long flowing hair crowned by an ivy band, wearing loose drapery, standing on round base, 160cm highIn Greek mythology Maenads were the female followers of Dionysus. They were the most significant members of the Thiasus, an ecstatic gathering of his worshippers. In artworks they are often portrayed in a state of excited frenzy, dancing or drinking wine. In in this present example the figure looks down smiling at the panther seated at her feet. An ivy wreath, a symbol associated with maenads, is wrapped around her head, falling gracefully over her shoulder and legs. Dionysus also often carries a sceptre wound with trailing ivy. Hinterglasmalerei - - Odysseus und Polyphem. Um 1850. Hinterglasmalerei. 17 x 27 cm. Monogrammiert. To escape, Odysseus pretends to be "nobody" to the giant and offers him wine until he falls asleep drunk. Odysseus then stabs Polyphemus in the eye with a red-hot stake. When the blinded Cyclops calls for help and says that "Nobody" has attacked him, his fellow Cyclopes do not come to his aid. In the end, Odysseus and his men escape by tying themselves under the bellies of the sheep that Polyphemus lets out of the cave the next morning. - Broken glass in the upper left corner. Otherwise very good. Nuanced composition with spatial depth effect, the colour fresh.

GLENFIDDICH AGE OF DISCOVERY BOURBON CASK, MADEIRA CASK AND RED WINE CASK (3X20CL) SPEYSIDE SINGLE MALT All 40% ABV / 20cl Without Glenfiddich, Scotland might not enjoy the same thriving whisky scene it has today. Founded in 1886 by William Grant, and still family owned, Glenfiddich was one of the first distilleries to seriously market single malt whisky as a credible alternative to blends. This decision was prompted by a dispute with their grain supplier in 1963, leading to a scaling back in production of their Grant’s blend. By the late 1960s Glenfiddich single malt was a firm hit with the Jet Set, who were picking it up in their droves from the newly emerging Duty-Free market. That early prescience clearly paid off, as (despite strong competition from fellow Speyside giants Glenlivet and Macallan) Glenfiddich is consistently the best-selling single malt in the world, shifting over 1 million cases every year.
