A carved and grey painted wooden rocking horse, early 20th century, with glass eyes and real horse hair mane and tail, leather saddle raised on a pine base 124 x 137 x 43cm Provenance: Gurney's Manor, Hingham, Norfolk the central horizontal rail is loose on the turned column supports so does pop off when lifted, structurally a lot of movement in the frame, in need of attention, not for use currently minor dry cracks to the horses body most notably the right shoulder and the top of the front legs where they meet the body minor paint loss through out, the horses body is heavily dented and knocked, particularily the rear end, paint appears to be later with black lines added around the eyes and face, ears chipped and damaged see photos leather is worn and torn in places, some parts look to be replacement124cm high from the floor to highest point

A Painted Rocking Horse on Pine Trestle Base, late 19th/early 20th century, 112cm to tips of ears, tressel 135cm longHas been later repainted. Hair and tail also later additions. Saddle appears origninal, stirrups later. Some evidence of old worm and old knocks and scrapes which have been covered with paint. Base and horse appear to be original. Stencil patent number to the base. The base with numerous scuffs and scratches rendering it illegable. Head and mouth in the manner of F H Ayres, but not thought to be by him. Estimate £200-£300
