A large Victorian needlework sampler, dated 1850, by Elizabeth Sutcliffe, with central verse above trees and a bird, a large country house below, all within a foliate border, rosewood cushion moulded frame81 x 83cm overallThis piece is made on a linen base cloth with threads of wool.There is an area in the bottom right corner which is a bit darker, but the rest has a relatively even colour for its age.The stitches have no holes and show no obvious sign of damage.The wooden frame has a few chips on the outer layer of rosewood, and minor bumps along the back edge of the frame.The gold filet has slipped a little at the top, and the gilding is a bit damaged.We have'nt examined the piece out of the frame.Please see further images.
An 1822 sampler by Sarah aged 7, daughter of William and Jane Noble, sampler border decorated with flowers, central panel with religious verse and various decoration including a ship underneath saying Nelson, tree of life, Adam and Eve, animals and birds etc. 52 cm x 51 cm in contemporary gilt frame under glass (see illustration).

George III silk work sampler by Mary Wilkinson aged 14, dated 1813, finely worked with verse 'When blooming youth is match'd away, By death's resistless hand, Our hearts the mournful tribute pay, Which pity must demand, While friendship prompts the rising sigh, O may this truth impress, With awful power - I too must die, Sink deep in every breast, Let this vain world engage no more, Behold the gaping tombs, It bids us seize the present houer, To-morrow death may come', decorated with various floral and animal motifs, including ducks and moths, within Greek key border, 38cm x 38cm
George II sampler, Dorothy Dethick, dated 1742, worked with bands of the alphabet, the lower section finely worked with various floral and foliate motifs, most likely examples of her practicing her technique, contained within ornately carved gilt frame 37.5cm x 21cm Condition Report:Fragile condition but overall good for the age of the piece, pins holding the sampler in place are beginning to rust, colour in most areas are faded and there is some light staining, thrips beneath glass.

A Regency black ground pen work box, of shallow rectangular form, the lid with a chinoiserie scene of a sedan chair and entourage within a leaf and flower border, the sides with swags within dog tooth borders, original paper lining, with a simple sampler, an embroidered silk souvenir bag and a piece of padded cloth, the box 30 x 22 x 6cms. A rare watch case sampler contained in its seemingly original pair cased silver watch, the near circular sampler inscribed ‘A Prosperous Voyage and Safe Return’, amid hearts and other motifs, 4.7cms, the watch with white enamel dial, the fusee movement with elaborate pierced escapement cover and engraved for ‘Thos. Tennant, Childwall, 150’ (Liverpool), the case hallmarked for Chester 1771 by John Wyke and Thomas Green, the watch 5cms dia.
A good sampler style disc form pin cushion dated 1827, worked in brick red and cream, one side inscribed ‘A Token of respect 1827’, below geometric motifs within a border, the reverse with a snowflake motif within border, silk ribbon surround, near mint save for a little minor staining to the ribbon, 4.4cms dia. An attractive sampler ‘Francis Dakurow Eided This Sampler 16th May In The Year Of Our Lord 1735’, worked with a verse ‘See How The Lillies Flourish …..’, over rows of numerals, alphabets and motifs, some in pierced work, the lower section with Adam and Eve amid flowering jardinieres, flowers, animals, birds, crowns, and other motifs, in a modern glazed frame, 46 x 21.5cms.
A sampler ‘Elizabeth Eaglestone Aged 9 Years 1836’, neatly worked with rows of alphabets and numerals with a verse between rows of acorns and flowers over crowns and a row of acorns, a few minor moth nips, 43 x 33cms, in a glazed frame. ± The vendor gifts to the buyer of this lot an oval miniature of the said Elizabeth Eaglestone in gilt mount in papier mache frame with oak leaf and acorn ring suspension, the miniature 6.2cms.
