DION JULES-ALBERT DE: (1856-1946) French pioneer of the automobile industry, the inventor of a steam-powered car which won the world´s first auto race (although the vehicle was adjudged to be against the rules). Dion was also the co-founder of De Dion-Bouton, the world's largest automobile manufacturer for a time, as well as the French sports newspaper L´Équipe. A.L.S., De Dion, two pages, 8vo, n.p., 25th October 1892, to a friend and colleague, on the black bordered mourning stationery of the Sénat, in French. Je lui souhaite un mariage neureux et prospere´ (Translation: ´My best wishes to you and Mrs. St. Maure (?) on the happy news of your daughter Helene's upcoming marriage. I wish her a happy and prosperous marriage´). With the integral leaf neatly removed, and no longer present. VG

A 'barn find' 1985 Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 - Registration no. C419 GGP, Chassis No. ZAR 116C00 03003563. Fitted with the legendary 2.5 litre 'Busso' V6 engine, 5 speed manual, original red and dark grey two-tone paintwork with black 'Recaro' style interior and original alloy wheels. Originally supplied by Thorobred Cars (Shepperton) Ltd., 26th September 1985 to a Mr A Briddle of Weybridge, Surrey and passing then to its second and last owner in Oxfordshire in late 1989 / early 1990, when it had covered just over 30,000 miles. The mileage is now registered as 63,978 and we have every reason to believe that is genuine. The car has not been driven on the road for approx. 25 years and has been dry stored in a double garage at the second owner's parents' house near Chipping Norton - the car was not covered so has acquired a thick layer of dust and dirt in the intervening years. It remains in remarkably good order for an Alfa from this period, although some rust is evident to the inner wings inside the engine compartment, the flitch panels inside the front wheel arches, the bottom of the front wings just above the sills and the lower edge of the tailgate. The seams at either end of the windscreen do not show any rust however. The underside appears to have been waxoyled many years ago. The interior remains in very good condition indeed, although it is dusty and there is some surface mould to the leather steering wheel (which appears to be superficial). Fitted with a very period-correct Hitachi radio cassette player and a manual sunroof, which operates smoothly. The doors and tailgate open and close with ease and the hinges have not dropped. The engine compartment is dirty and has surface corrosion to the alloy components throughout. We have also noted the residence of some rodents in the air filter housing at some stage! The car will obviously require full recommissioning / restoration but is a gloriously original, low mileage and low owner example of one of the iconic Alfa Romeo's of the late 20th century, with a legendary soundtrack and fine handling from the famed transaxle layout. A desirable 1980s Italian sports coupe, which deserves to be restored to its former glory and to come to life once again. Supplied with a full set of keys and the original document wallet containing the Service Coupon Booklet, owner's manual, other original booklets and two photographs of the car taken outside the garage where the car was recently rediscovered, c.1990. * Please note that the car has a steering wheel lock fitted and the key to this has not yet been found, so the car will be sold with the steering wheel lock in place - it will need to be removed by the purchaser after the car has been removed from our premises.
A collection of VSCC, 750MC, B&HMC and Bentley Drivers Club prize trophies and tankards - won by the noted vintage Bentley racing driver Robert Bradley of Oxfordshire in his Bentley Mk.VI specials, comprising six EPNS trophies, an EPNS tankard, 14 pewter tankards, two EPNS dishes, two marble paperweights and a quantity of EPNS plaques, all inscribed, some of the earlier examples with applied enamel club badges, the earliest dated 1955, the latest 1998, races including the B&HMC Speed Trials, the 750MC Tarrant Rushman Sprint, VSCC Vintage Scratch Race, VMCC Levis Cup Trial, Prescott VSCC 3000CC Sports, BDC Corniche and Shell Trophies etc. * Robert (Bob) Bradley was the son of RJ (Reg) Bradley, who had founded a garage business in Shipton-under-Wychwood in Oxfordshire in the 1920s - his two sons Bob and Mike followed him into the business in the late 1940s/early 1950s, trading as R J. Bradley & Sons Motor Engineers. They joined the VSCC and BDC and initially bought and campaigned pre-war Bentleys, but as the value of those cars increased and spares availability became more difficult, it took racing them out of reach. So they decided to develop specials based on the readily available and cheap post-war Mk.VI steel saloon, exploiting the model's bombproof engine and gearbox and more sophisticated chassis design. They completed their 1948 Mk.VI Special in 1965, known as 'KXO', and it became consistently successful when campaigned by the two brothers, becoming the car to beat for many years. Bob continued racing the car after Mike's very untimely passing aged 38 in 1972, until he himself tragically died at the wheel of the car he loved so much in 2000 at the Cornbury Park Hill Climb.
