Charles-Édouard Jeanneret aka 'Le Corbusier' (Swiss-French 1887-1965), a pair of 'LC14 Tabouret Cabanon' cube stools, designed for Chandigarh, c.1967, teak, 43cm wide 43cm deep 29cm high (2) Provenance: Student Hostel, Sector 34, Udyan Path, Chandigarh. Le Corbusier originally designed the 'Tabouret Cabanon' stool in 1952 for his holiday house - ‘Petit Cabanon’ in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin on the French Riviera - where alongside the many fixed furnishings, the furniture was conceived as boxes. The 'LC14' design was later used in the Chandigarh project with Pierre Jeanneret. Condition ReportThe stools have been lightly restored retaining all original scars and marks and patina. A GEORGE I WALNUT AND NEEDLEWORK STOOL CIRCA 1720 The rectangular padded seat upholstered with 18th century tapestry 41cm high, 50cm wide, 41cm deep Condition Report: Overall there are some scratches, marks, chips, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.The tapestry extensively re-worked at various dates and increased in size with later woolwork so that it fits the stool seat; with close nailed borders; though repaired it has real charm.There are some cracks, some of which are sectional construction joins; some dowels to the underside of the pad feet; some evidence of old worm; some small repairs behind the knees of the cabriole legs and inner seat rails; one pad foot repaired.Please see all the additional condition report photographs through the link on the condition report email as a visual reference of condition - they are a vital part of this report. AN EARLY GEORGE III MAHOGANY STOOL CIRCA 1765 The drop in seat upholstered in raw silk 45cm high, 51cm wide, 51cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, and abrasions commensurate with age and use.Some old chips, splits, and minor losses.Four later blocks added to the seat rails corners to provide stability (see images).Some old screw repairs to the reverse of the knees of two of the legs to prevent further splitting (see images).Some minor evidence of old worm. A GEORGE III MAHOGANY ARMCHAIR IN THE MANNER OF THOMAS CHIPPENDALE, CIRCA 1770 The feet with leather casters 92.5cm high, 63cm wide, 62cm deepThe design of this armchair corresponds to a suite at Aske Hall, Yorkshire, which was probably supplied to Sir Lawrence Dundas (d.1781) for his London mansion 19 Arlington Street. A second giltwood suite of the same pattern was also supplied to Dundas and was photographed by Country Life while still at Arlington Street in 1933. A giltwood stool from the Arlington suite was sold at Christie's, London, 31st January 1999, and part of the remainder of the Arlington suite was sold by Cicely, Countess of Zetland, Christie's, London, 10th May 1973, lot 123. A mahogany stool corresponding to this pattern was sold Christie's, London, 50 Years of Collecting: The Decorative Arts of Georgian England, 14th May 2003, lot 129 (£32,265 incl.
