John Ruskin (1819-1900), a group of various letters including: an eight-page signed letter, undated, to The Reverend Stephen Bridge concerning the building of St Matthew, Denmark Hill, the letter includes eleven small pen sketches of architectural details within the text, through which Ruskin attempts to show that the architect has made several serious design errors: '...I find myself reduced to the ungracious task of finding fault with the present design without being able to suggest any mode of arriving at a happier result - still, I feel so strongly that the large sum required for the completion of this floor plan will be miserably wasted - and that many who might be pleased by the drawing, would yet be disappointed by the church - that I cannot forbear giving you the reasons...', a signed letter to 'Mr. Bridge' from 31 Park Street, 23rd Nov., stating he has returned from Normandy '...finding in my own neighbourhood a piece of architecture so graceful and picturesque as your new church - I wrote a very impertinent letter about the design of it... I trust you will acquit me of conceitedness in the matter - and of putting much value on my high opinion - but I do love architecture very much and I believe I enjoy more than most people when I enjoy a design at all: and suffer more than most when I do not.', and three other signed letters from Ruskin to Bridge, an envelope to Bridge, franked 29th and 30th December 1846, a section of the text of a lecture by Ruskin, 'The Aim of Poetry', delivered in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, 24th October 1877, and a two-page signed letter by Arthur Severn, dated Dec 5th 1900, from Brantwood, to The Reverend Stephen Bridge, concerning the choice of the dignitary to unveil the Ruskin Memorial (qty.)

John Ruskin (1819-1900), a signed letter, addressed to Mrs Collins, Paris 21st September 80, encouraging her in her writing: 'tell me what your new children's book is to be about, and write it as you would like to write it - not consulting the Christian Knowledge people's notions more than you choose to' and offering sympathy in her troubles: 'I have not forgotten you, although more often as I remembered, -- the thought of your difficulties and their cruel causes, make me still helplessly silent. Indeed I don't, and never have thought, that our wills can conquer anything, and I am the last to tell any delicate woman she ought to live hardly - many things I may have said against common idlers and useless luxury, -- but nothing [?] of severe in expectation from people who are in hundreds of cases, already living an anchorites life, compared to mine', adding that her letters deeply touch and interest him and that he will assuredly 'keep you at present from feeling yourself in servitude for the sake of fifteen pounds', in a postscript, he offers to send a cheque for £20, with further instalments of money, although he is not sure that she would like that kind of help often ('...But there are times for it...), anda letter addressed to Mr Ruskin, from J R Lowell, 22nd Nov 1859, expressing his delight that Ruskin should admire his work: 'My dear Mr Ruskin,/ to have made one man happy in a lifetime is worth living for, & you have made me happy and proud too in writing to Norton that you counted me among your friends. That you may take for granted, but I must go farther & say, among your debtors as well. My proportion of a debt which I share with all who speak or read the English tongue may be small as far as it concerns you, but to me it is great & lifelong. We all quarrel with you sometimes, but what good could we get from a man who prophesied smooth things? & I am sure that I am not assuming too much when I say that in giving you my hearty thanks for what you have done, I am only doing what all the men whose opinion you would care for in America would gladly do if they had the same pretext for it that I have. I offer you my hand with all my heart, & I pay you my fealty also as to the man who has done for Art what Wordsworth wished to do for Poetry', and asking him if he could contribute an article to the Atlantic Monthly, ending in the persona and feigned hand of Hosea Biglow: 'i go in for the A buv like all git eout/ Hosea Biglow' (2)

John Ruskin (1819-1900), two letters relating to pupils of the High School, Cork:the first addressed to John Ruskin, 1st December 1885, 'Dear Mr Ruskin, We write for the Pupils of the High School, who have been anxious to express their great satisfaction at hearing of your recovery to health, but they waited in order to be able to send you a very hearty invitation to their breaking-up Conceit. Only they fear that the present inclement weather and the long journey to Cork may prevent your acceptance. Our Lady Principal is writing to you and she will tell you much better than we can, how deeply we should enjoy your presence then, or indeed on any occasion, if you will come to see us. We would ask our Queen to exercise here authority, but that we think it would be thoughtless and selfish just now but indeed we should be proud to welcome you in our school. We would like to tell you of our successes in the Year’s Examinations, because we are very proud of two of our elder girls, one of whom, Nita, has just passed her First University Examination in Dublin, and Lattie, on the Queen’s elder maidens, has matriculated in the Royal University. Maggie, Eva, Ethel, Florrie, Susanna, Daisy and Ethel the Second, passed the Intermediate Examinations in English, Mathematics and Modern Languages. We are, Dear Mr Ruskin, Your affectionate Pupils of the High School, Rose Queen',the second addressed to Mr dear Queen', 'I am quite happy with your Majesty’s letter – signed as it is by your loving subjects – and can quite peacefully wait to receive the Lady Principal’s by next post, it has not reached me with yours. She cannot tell me better than you can yourselves, what you want of me – and I should most thankfully have come - and listened – and heard – and much more than I can tell – besides, had I been able now to go anywhere. But though I am’ better’ and even, for an old man, well (or at least able for the things I chiefly wished to carry forward, I am altogether wholly unable for travelling, - and for all very delightful – as for all exciting and anxious things . I can’t let my head be turned - as it would in Ireland , when I’ve only just got it a little into order again after an illness, more serious than I care to tell you – Though I am writing quite seriously, - and not in play. But even ‘serious’ letters are forbidden me, yet a while. I hope before May day of next year to be of some use to you – even though I cannot be with you & I am always your loving and grateful servant J Ruskin' (2)

The beguiling women of the Les Femmes Fatales collection were each made in a limited edition of 750. Cleopatra HN2868 was a famous Egyptian queen and the last Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. In one well-known story, Cleopatra, who had been exiled by her younger brother Ptolemy, appeared at the Egyptian palace rolled inside of a Persian rug that had been presented to Julius Caesar. When Cleopatra tumbled out, he was so charmed by her that he took her as his mistress and restored her to the throne as Pharaoh. After Caesar's assassination, Cleopatra took up with Mark Antony, solidifying her place on the throne and strengthening ties between Egypt and Rome. Lot 2

Italian sculptural group titled The Wrestlers. Powerful representation inspired by the ancient Greco Roman Lysippus, the renowned 4th century BCE sculptor of classical antiquity. Rendered with extraordinary anatomical realism and dynamic tension, the composition depicts two male athletes locked in an intense moment of physical struggle, showcasing a masterful study of musculature, motion, and human form. The original marble group is traditionally thought to reflect the stylistic influence of Lysippus, official sculptor to Alexander the Great and a transformative figure in Greek art who broke from the static proportions of Polykleitos, a well known sculptor before Lysippos, in favor of more slender, naturalistic forms. Lysippus introduced a new canon of bodily proportions and expressive movement, pioneering a dynamic aesthetic that profoundly influenced later Hellenistic and Roman sculpture. This contemporary cast, mounted on a textured naturalistic base and finished in a rich golden bronze patina. Weight: 64lbs. Dimensions: 20"W x 17.5"HCondition: Age related wear.

ASTERIX CONQUERS AMERICA (1994) - Asterix, Obelix and Multi-Character Original Production Cel and Pan Original Layout Drawing Setup - A richly detailed pan layout setup from the animated feature Asterix Conquers America (aka Asterix In America), expertly composed using seven original hand-painted production cels over a large-format pan background drawing.Asterix Conquers America was the first Asterix film produced entirely outside France and marked an ambitious expansion of the franchise. With its distinctive style, international tone, and strong visual storytelling, it brought the iconic Gauls to a new generation. While this specific arrangement does not appear "as is" in the film, each cel and layout element was created for the production and has been thoughtfully assembled by the studio to showcase the visual dynamism and character design that define the feature. The studio officially released this piece as part of the Asterix Art Program, curated to preserve the series' legacy and offer collectors a rare look into the production process.Set in a Native American village deep in the New World, the artwork brings together an ensemble of key characters: the defiant Asterix stands mid-conversation alongside the wise druid Getafix (Panoramix), recently kidnapped and flung across the ocean by Roman forces. To their side, the young tribal girl, while a wary villager and medicine man, and the elaborately dressed village chief observe from either end, the ever-faithful Obelix acting as both mediator and muscle in the scene. The pencil layout background stretches across, laying out the ceremonial grounds and tipi village in a sweeping perspective. These layouts were integral to shot planning, camera movement, and cel positioning. The scale, clarity, and theatrical composition make this setup an ideal display piece, a scene that captures the drama and charm of the film's aesthetic. Multiple production reference numbers are handwritten along the bottom edge of the cels, and several annotations are written on the drawing. The official studio stamp is present on the bottom right corner of the layout, authenticating its origin. A special offering for fans of the franchise and for collectors who value the immediacy, scale, and storytelling power of original animation art. BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES (1992-1995) - Framed Original Hand-Painted Background "The Man Who Killed Batman" Animation Cel - A moody and evocative preliminary background from Batman: The Animated Series, hand-painted by celebrated artist John Calmette for Episode 51, "The Man Who Killed Batman" (1993).While the final camera pan in the episode reveals a slightly modified background with a "Diamond Exchange" sign over the door, this earlier, almost identical iteration captures the distilled atmosphere of Gotham's skyline with graphic elegance and anticipation. Calmette's signature Art Deco geometry and theatrical use of light are on full display, from the looming vertical scale to the isolation of a single glowing streetlamp.Unusually, the piece is inscribed in the artist's own hand: "406 551, Diamond Exchange, sc. B60, Batman, J. Calmette", a rare dedication for internal production work. Painted on black paper rather than the usual white in animation, this was a deliberate stylistic choice by the art department to enhance the show's noir shadows and dramatic compositions. As a result, the atmosphere isn't layered on in post-production or FX cels; it's embedded in the very base of the painting. Gotham breathes here…quiet, stylised, and waiting to detonate. A beautifully preserved and highly displayable original, this is a compelling acquisition for collectors drawn to the visual world-building of the series as much as the action within it.It comes mounted within a black frame with plexiglass and features a hanging wire on the reverse. The frame displays minor marks, and the lot comes with a Warner Bros. Animation Art certificate of authenticity. Dimensions (framed): 16" x 21.75" x 1" (41 x 55 x 2.5 cm)Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Buyer's Guide.VAT Status: M

LES ADVENTURES DE TINTIN (TV SERIES, 1959-1964) - Tintin and Snowy Original Hand-Painted Original Production Cel and Background Setup - This rare hand-inked and hand-painted original production cel setup from the episode Destination Moon (Objectif Lune), part of the 1959 TV serial Hergé's Adventures of Tintin. The series was produced by legendary Belgian production house Belvision Studios in collaboration with Larry Harmon Pictures. In 1957, Belvision began adapting Hergé's iconic Tintin comics into animation, producing eight of the Adventures as short-format television episodes. Destination Moon marked a standout two-part episode in the second animated series, directed by Ray Goossens and scripted by the renowned cartoonist Greg, who would go on to become editor-in-chief of Tintin magazine. The significance of these animated adaptations cannot be overstated. They were among the first efforts to bring Hergé's beloved characters to the screen, introducing Tintin, Snowy, Captain Haddock, and the rest of the cast to an entirely new audience. For many fans, these early adaptations hold a nostalgic place alongside the classic comic albums, bridging the gap between print and screen with a distinctive mid-century European animation style. This appealing scene features Tintin in his distinctive orange spacesuit alongside his faithful companion Snowy. The cels are paired with a hand-painted background used in the production that beautifully evokes the stylised sci-fi setting of the story. Its scarcity makes original production artwork from Hergé's Adventures of Tintin especially coveted. Few cels survived from this period, as animation art was typically discarded or destroyed after use and only served a functional role. Pieces like this, especially with both Tintin and Snowy, are rarely seen, making them highly desirable to animation, European comics, and pop culture history collectors alike. This setup is not just a charming scene; it's a piece of animation and Tintin history, capturing the bold spirit of one of the most influential comic series ever created. CINDERELLA (1950) - Cinderella In Bed Original Production-Era Animation Pencil Drawing - An original production-era animation drawing of Cinderella from Walt Disney Studios c.1949-1950. While this drawing does not match an exact final frame in the completed 1950 animated film, several production markers affirm its authenticity: the paper, peg configuration, and character styling place it squarely within the film's production window. The line quality and looseness of the facial features and hairstyle suggest it may have been part of a rough animation pass, an assistant animator's timing test, or a development drawing created while refining key scenes.Drawings like this often originate from early or alternate versions of sequences that were later revised or reanimated. The softer linework and absence of ink-and-paint registration marks reinforce that this was not traced for cel use but was a working part of the animation process. It is ideal for collectors who value the craftsmanship and behind-the-scenes artistry that shaped the golden age of Disney animation. The drawing shows Cinderella seated in bed and holding a blanket. It is rendered in graphite with a small amount of pink coloured pencil added to her lips on 12-field, 5-peg hole animation paper. It is numbered "47" on the lower right. The paper displays some minor creasing. Dimensions: 25.5 cm x 30.5 cm (10" x 12")Sold without copyright; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.VAT Status: M

PINK FLOYD: THE WALL (1982) - Original Framed Teacher Marionette Production Cel and Pencil Drawing Display - An original production cel and matching production drawing of The Teacher, one of the most infamous and enduring figures from Pink Floyd’s The Wall. Suspended like a marionette, this moment captures the very essence of what The Wall set out to do: visualise control, repression, and the psychological unravelling of its protagonist, Pink.Though The Wall was released as a feature film in 1982, this specific sequence, the Teacher as puppet, had already burned itself into public consciousness years earlier through the official music video for “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2â€. The sight of the Teacher strung up like a grotesque marionette became one of the defining visuals of the band’s critique of authoritarian schooling, institutional power, and the loss of innocence. This image is instantly recognisable even for those who never sat through the whole film.In the film, the Teacher is no longer a person, but a tool, a cog, a puppet used to beat down the next generation. The fact that this visual found its way from a concept album to a feature film and into pop culture consciousness is a testament to its power. The original drawing and production cel carry the official seal of the Pink Floyd – The Wall art programme, set up to offer artefacts from one of the boldest, most iconic animated films in music history. These icons are now increasingly rare and increasingly meaningful. A certificate of authenticity featuring the printed signatures of Scarfe and Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters are stuck to the back of the display. The frame exhibits some light wear.
