Miguel de Herrera (La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 1696 - Mexico, after 1765)“Allegory and exaltation of the purity and virginity of Mary Immaculate, and symbolism of some lauretan litanies”.Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and located: “Fr. Miguel de Herrera, Augustiniano f. Mexico 1743”. In its original carved, polychromed and gilded wooden frame. 102 x 76 cm.Delicate allegorical work by Miguel de Herrera, a painter from the Canary Islands, also known as Fray Miguel de Herrera, as in 1712 he became a monk, entering the Monastery of the Holy Spirit of the order of St. Augustine.  The painting portrays the theological and devotional exaltation of the purity and virginity of Mary Immaculate, with the symbolism of some lauretan litanies. This painter moved to New Spain in 1719, developing most of his artistic career in Mexico, which is why for a time it was believed that Mexico was his birthplace. It should be noted that in 1753 this painter from Tenerife entered the First Academy of Painting in Mexico. The exact date of his death is unknown, but he remained active at least until 1765.Certainly, this mature work by the Augustinian friar reflects the metaphors that appear in the Bible with mastery.  They are already seen in patristics as prefigurations of Christ and are contemplated here totally in a Marian sense. In a background of purity and mystical light, with delicate tones almost of celestial mist, below and in the background, Nazareth appears, pointed out by Saint Anne as the place of the Virgin's birth, as well as the walls of Jerusalem, where the life and death of her Son will take place. From the union of her two holy parents, Joachim and Anne, the Virgin Mary emerges as a white lily (Lilium Candidum), an emblematic species because of its immaculate white flowers and its deep cultural and religious symbolism, being a botanical hermaphrodite and icon of purity and renewal, which exudes a deep, sweet and intense fragrance. This figure is surrounded by immaculist symbolism and some Laurelian litanies, which were born in the Song of Songs, which became part of the landscape and background of many artworks and which enclosed the iconographic model of the “Tota Pulchra”.On the upper right, “the Door”, Mary is symbolized as the door to heaven through which the Savior has come to us, according to Christian theology, as well as the door that leads us to Him.Below, two angels hold “the Tower of David or Tower of ivory”, in clear parallelism to the tower of the Alcazar in which King David settled when he conquered Jerusalem, symbol of his power and of singular dignity and beauty. The Tower of David, alludes to Mary´s spiritual beauty, her firmness in faith and her dignity as Mother of the Messiah. They also hold the lily, which, like the lilies, signifies her virginal being and her conception without stain of sin. That whiteness is an image of the Virgin's spiritual beauty, and the petals opening upwards are a reference to her openness to God the Father. The petals opening to her sides allude to her generous and essentially missionary motherhood. All the petals form a single flower, an image of fraternity. According to the thought of St. Bernard, Mary's lily is not cultivated and pampered in gardens, but the wild lily of the valley, which sprouts and blooms without the intervention and the hand of man.On the left, above, two other angels hold the Mirror, Mary as “Mirror of Justice”. This Lauretan litany expresses that Mary reflects divine holiness, that is, perfection. In Mary “God was reflected and reproduced through his faithful transcript Jesus, without wounding or altering the mirror itself,” as the Holy Fathers say.The mirror is also related to the soul and the reflection it produces. Therefore, it would come to be one of the faces of truth and, because of its complexity, it would allude at the same time to conscience, clarity and divine intelligence. They also hold an olive branch, which symbolizes peace and values of fecundity, victory or purification applied to the Virgin Mary. The palm or “Palm Tree” which, because of its greenness and life, usually has a meaning related to the hope of salvation. Likewise, recalling the events of the Passion of Christ, the inhabitants of Jerusalem acclaimed Jesus at the entrance of the city as a sign of triumph and victory. In that sense, it evokes ascension, regeneration and immortality. Likewise, we cannot forget that the palm tree was one of the trees that existed in paradise. Iconographically, in the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, this element usually appears as an allegory of justice. Finally, a basket of roses speaks of the “Mystical Rose”, as a symbol of the passion and charity of Christ, showing Mary as queen of flowers and queen of virtues, as St. Bonaventure reflected in his work “The Mystical Vine”.

Registration – WNE 837LChassis No. – YB57689DLM.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 19,305Despite being over 50 years old, ‘WNE837L’ has known only four keepers to date. The first two accounted for the first 46 years of this Triumph’s life. The current owner acquired ‘WNE837L’ just two years ago. Today ‘WNE837L’ records just 19,305 miles on its odometer. This can’t be warranted but the vendor reports it is feasibly original based on ‘WNE837L’s’ condition and presentation. A high level of originality is noted, and much remedial work has been undertaken in current ownership. This includes five new tyres and a new battery. ‘WNE837L’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle based on age and so is zero rated for VED and MOT exempt. ‘WNE837L’ is being offered here with NO RESERVE.‘WNE837L’ is thought to present in it's original factory paintwork of Mineral Blue. This combines well with the deeply chromed radiator grill, bumpers and overriders and panel edging strips. The originality, as with the rest of the car, is most striking and the vendor notes there is a “little patina” to the exterior of ‘WNE837L.’ The design of the Triumph 1500 was the work of the celebrated Giovanni Michelotti who did a number of designs for the firm during the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. The interior is another time warp experience looking much as it would have done from new. Triumph’s place in the BMC firmament was as an upmarket offering so there is plenty of wood veneer, chromed fittings and deep carpets in evidence. The predominant shades are variations of blue with some black vinyl noted in places. The paintwork, bodywork and interior are all rated as “good.”‘WNE837L’ is fitted with the 1493cc version of the Standard SC engine and is fitted with a single SU carburettor in this application. This endowed the original with around 65bhp which proved plenty for a sub-1000kg car. Much work has been undertaken during current ownership to include new brake cylinders all round, a new old stock exhaust system, a refurbished fuel tank and a replacement clutch slave cylinder. Modern electronic ignition has also been fitted. In summary:· A highly original example of the breed with just four owners to date.· Much remedial work done in the current ownership so ready to enjoy.· MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax based on Historic Vehicle status.

Lot 42

Registration – NTF 136MChassis No. – KE231670M.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 34,827‘NTF 136M’ is a Triumph GT6 from 1973 making it a MKIII version and the final iteration of the diminutive coupe. ‘NTF 136M’ has been the recipient of a number of upgrades, not least of which is an enlarged 2.5 litre version of the straight six engine that gave the GT its suffix. ‘NTF 136M’ was restored around 16 years ago but, in more recent times, has a good deal of work undertaken to result in the reportedly nicely running example that it is today. Hardened valve seats have been fitted to allow ‘NTF 136M’ to run on unleaded fuel. ‘NTF 136M’ is classified as an Historic Vehicle and so is MOT exempt and zero rated for road tax. Earlier MOT records show that less than 5,000 miles have been covered in the last 20 years or so. Being sold complete with a good level of accompanying paperwork. The Triumph GT6 was originally a Michelotti design based on the Spitfire. The extra weight associated with the handsome coupe styling, however, was too heavy for the original Spitfire’s 1100cc engine. The model was shelved. It was only after the racing Spitfires adopted the body for more aerodynamic advantage that the model was resurrected, this time with the 2-litre straight six engine from the Vitesse. ‘NTF 136M’ left the Coventry factory in a white livery but has enjoyed a colour change to black in the intervening years. A number of other upgrades seem to have been made including non-standard bumpers, bonnet side vents and aftermarket alloy wheels. The interior is finished in black cloth and retains a good level of originality retaining the original sporting cues. The vendor rates paintwork, bodywork and interior as “good.”As well as that enlarged engine and unleaded-friendly valve seats, plenty of recent mechanical attention has been lavished on ‘NTF 136M.’ This work includes the fitment of a new distributor, leads and plugs, carburettors rebuilt and balanced and a new manifold fitted. ‘NTF 136M’ features a four speed manual transmission with switchable overdrive. All mechanical facets of this GT6 are rated as “good.”In summary:· An impressive looking GT6 with a number of modifications· Compete with an enlarged 2.5-litre engine running on unleaded fuel· Comes with a good level of accompanying paperwork

Lot 52

Registration – 185 XUKChassis No. – DB4-1122RM.O.T. – April 2025Odometer – 81,000‘185 XUK’ is truly an astounding car. One of just 136 Aston Martin DB4 coupes made with the uprated Vantage specification and the subject of a no-expense-spared restoration. ‘185 XUK’s’ chassis number of 1122 reveals it to be a MK V model and the 121st of that series to roll out of Newport Pagnell. This matching numbers car is a UK specified and supplied example being delivered new to its first Perthshire based owner by dealers Aberfoyle Motors in November 1962. The DB4 was specified with overdrive, a 3.77 ratio rear axle, Bray Block heater, heated rear screen and chrome wire wheels. The first lucky owner retained ‘185 XUK’ for a full 23 years until 1985 when it was sold at a warranted mileage of 35,000. At that point the Aston Martin travelled south and was enjoyed by four owners in the London area over the next 26-years. In the mid-1990’s ‘185 XUK’ underwent its first comprehensive restoration at around 47,000 miles. The work extended to the mechanicals, an engine rebuild as well as the paint and bodywork. Despite being acquired in a sound and useable condition a previous owner initiated a show standard restoration in 2017. At this stage the body was stripped back to the metal and all components were removed and replaced or restored. The triple carburettor Vantage engine was sent to world renowned specialists RS Williams for a £40,000 full engine rebuild. The bodywork was completely restored and the paintwork painstakingly reapplied. A number of thoughtful and subtle upgrades were also made at this stage – more of which shortly. The restoration was complete in 2018 at a total cost of around £190,000. The odometer reading roughly 80,000 miles at this stage and was zeroed on completion of the restoration. Today the odometer reads a little over 1,000 miles. ‘185 XUK’ is being sold with the most comprehensive paperwork files imaginable. This includes diligently kept notebooks from the first owner, logging the mileage covered and all work undertaken between 1962 and 1985. Work from both subsequent restorations has also been painstakingly documented and recorded. Despite its MOT exemption as an Historic Vehicle, ‘185 XUK’ is complete with an advisory free test valid until April 2025.The Aston Martin DB4 was a watershed car for the historic British marque. Much more than a mere revision of its predecessor, it boasted a svelte lightweight, superleggera body designed by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan. Out went the Lagonda 2.9-litre engine of the DB2/4 MK III in favour of a new 3.7-litre Tadek Marek straight six unit. Upon its introduction in 1958, the DB4 became the first model to be built at the famous Newport Pagnell factory. This example’s latest restoration is a triumph and as thorough as its six figure cost would suggest. The attention to detail exhibited is truly outstanding. The underside presents probably better than a brand new DB4 did. The braking system, suspension, rear axle and floor pans all look like new. The whole underside appearance is remarkable. The engine bay is pristine, and its original factory Vantage engine looks as good as it performs. The interior is every bit the equal of the rest of the car and has been completely re-trimmed and re-upholstered in sublime red leather.During the restoration a raft of expertly chosen upgrades were made to further enhance the usability and utility of ‘185 XUK’ for the modern world. These include a high power ignition system, high power alternator, a custom aluminium radiator, aluminium fuel tank, Kenlowe fan, uprated HBE handling kit, stainless steel exhaust system, fully upgraded sound deadening, modern central locking system, RSW hose set and stainless steel oil cooler and pipework. Such is the calibre of ‘185 XUK’ that it was featured in a Prestige and Performance Car multipage feature in 2023. The tester concluded the feature by reporting that “the last time I enjoyed this kind of visceral excitement was when I drove a majestic Lamborghini 350 GT 20 years ago.” This, then, is clearly an Aston Martin DB4 Vantage with vanishingly few equals.

• Restored to an excellent standard • Over £20,000 of receipts on file detailing the restoration • Desirable 150bhp ‘CP’ engine and overdrive The Triumph TR6 was manufactured for seven years, starting in 1969, and by the time production came to an end in July 1976, it was the best-seller of the TR range. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5, but the front and rear were squared off and all TR6s featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market, the engine was fitted with carburettors whilst, for other world markets including the UK, the TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. It featured a four-speed manual gearbox, independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15" wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and boot, bucket seats and a full complement of instruments. In total, 94,619 TR6s were built of which 86,249 were sold overseas and only 8,370 were sold in the UK. This is an exceptional example of a UK supplied TR6 CP, extensively restored and tastefully modernised. The exterior is now painted in a highly attractive metallic red (Barcelona Red) which really brings the look of the car into the modern day and suits the lines of the TR6 perfectly. The car was full stripped to bare metal in 2019 and resprayed to a very impressive standard which still looks superb today, thanks to a full ceramic coating. The restoration of the car was extremely comprehensive, virtually no stone was left unturned. The interior has been upgraded with a pair of Mazda MX5 seats, a very popular upgrade for additional comfort and they don’t look out of place in the TR6 at all. The dashboard has been changed to a beautiful walnut veneer dashboard, which really lifts the interior. Other additions are a classic looking Bluetooth stereo and inertia reel seatbelts. Our vendor has owned the car since 2007 and possesses the skills to carry out a vast majority of the restoration work himself, with the invoices on file coming to a total of around £20,000 for parts and the paintwork. The engine was fully stripped down and had some machining work at Classic & Modern Engine Services in Bracknell, then it was fully rebuilt. This is a TR6 which is ready to be enjoyed this summer and wouldn’t look out of place at any classic car show. The history file is extensive and documents everything carried out during the restoration and it’s supplied with an MoT test certificate valid until Jun 2025 and a V5C registration document. Three owners from newFully restored and featuring TR5 engineThe Triumph TR6 was manufactured for seven years from 1969 and by the time production came to an end in July 1976, it was the best-seller of the TR range. In total 94,619 TR6’s were built of which 86,249 were sold overseas and only 8,370 were sold in the UK.This lovely example of a UK right hand drive home market TR6 with factory overdrive is presented in Triumph Royal Blue with a contrasting red leather trim and red soft top. Our vendor has owned the car since 2002 having purchased it from the second owner, he then had the car restored in 2009. Upon purchasing, the previous owner informed our vendor that he used to have a TR5 and a TR6 but had written off the TR5, he decided to keep the engine from the TR5 as it performed so well and put it in the TR6. The TR5 engine (CP908E) remains in 901 DPH today and has covered just 22,071 miles since restoration. Recent works include an overdrive and gearbox rebuild in 2023 and the car in our vendors 23 years ownership has always been garaged.Unsurprisingly, being only a three-owner car, there is a very good history file including Heritage Certificate which alludes to the number 901 DPH having been with the car from new, it also shows the car was originally Saffron Yellow before our vendor decided to change the colour during the restoration to a striking Triumph Royal Blue with red combination. Our vendor states it is absolute joy to drive with the overdrive performing as it should but due to a property purchase the car needs to find a new home. Low ownership, fully restored with the desirable TR5 engine combined with overdrive gearbox, this handsome TR6 would be a joy to own this summer and for many to come. Original UK supplied right hand drive examplePhotographic evidence of body rebuildThe Triumph TR6 was produced between 1969-1976 and was the best-seller of the TR range built by Triumph when production ended in July 1976, however this record was then surpassed by the angular TR7. In total 94,619 TR6’s were built of which 86,249 were sold overseas and only 8,370 were sold in the UK. The bodywork closely resembled that of the previous model, the Triumph TR5 but the front and rear were squared off and all TR6’s featured inline six-cylinder engines. For the US market the engine was fitted with carburettors, for other world markets including the UK TR6 was fitted with fuel-injection. The Lucas mechanical fuel injection system helped the UK specification TR6 produce 150bhp at the model introduction. The TR6 featured a four-speed manual transmission and an optional overdrive unit for spirited driving. TR6 also featured independent rear suspension, rack and pinion steering, 15-inch wheels and tyres, pile carpet on the floors and boot, bucket seats, and a full complement of instrumentation. Braking was accomplished by disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear.Originally registered on 14th August 1972, this TR6 has a CP chassis number defining this as a 150bhp example. Photographic evidence of a full body rebuild is in the history file, clearly this Triumph has benefitted from significant time and financial investment. More recent work includes new suspension bushes, new shock absorbers front and rear, brake calipers and hoses, drop link arms and steering rack bushes. Described by the vendor as driving with no known faults and presenting extremely well, this Triumph TR6 still runs on the original Lucas fuel injection system, but with the added benefit of of having had the Bosch fuel pump upgrade fitted. Supplied with a V5C registration document together with a history folder, the iconic TR6 is one of the greatest British sportscars manufactured. Consigned by Stewart Banks. The Triumph TR3 was built between 1955 and 1957 and was powered by a 1991cc engine which initially produced 95bhp increasing to 100bhp at 5000rpm. The four-speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dashboard. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc becoming the first British series production car to be so fitted. Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 and subsequent TR3A's became known for their superior braking ability making it an autocross favourite. In 1957, the TR3 was replaced by an updated version, the TR3A, which included new wide front grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and came with a full toolkit as standard, although the TR3A's still retained the 1991cc engine.Presented in Signal Red coachwork with fully retrimmed Fawn leather trim with new carpets this nut and bolt restored TR3 presents very well and represents a wonderful 50’s roadster perfect for the summer. Supplied with the British motor industry heritage certificate which indicates the date of build as 6th April 1956, supplied new to P.J.Evans limited with factory fitted 550 tyres the current specification is exactly as the original. A right hand drive home market example the restoration was completed we are informed in 2021 and a hand written note from the restorer details new parts including pistons and bore liners, the head being skimmed and new head gasket set part of an engine rebuild, new radiator and starter motor. The exhaust is stainless steel and the car sounds wonderful, it also comes with full wet weather gear in case you require and in the history file is photos from the restoration. An early TR3 is amongst our favourite classics, most can only imagine what 100bhp would have felt like 70 years ago but it still feels exhilarating today, let alone in, 1956. In our vendors words ‘this example purrs like a kitten, pulls like a train and handles like a dream. What a motor vehicle, motoring how it should be’.
