Registration – VY5 876Chassis No. – 5319388M.O.T. – ExemptOdometer – 60,847‘VY5876’ is an impressive looking and diligently restored example of Fordson’s Dagenham built version of Ford of America’s BB series of commercial vehicles. ‘VY5876’ dates from 1934 and was reportedly offered up for service towards the war effort at the start of World War II. At the war’s end it was returned to civilian duties again. The current owner acquired ‘VY5876’ in January 2023 to become just its seventh owner – a remarkable provenance for a 90 year old commercial vehicle. Quite clearly ‘VY5876’ has been bodily restored at some point in its recent history but is currently described as a non-runner. It is believed that some minor mechanical attention should be sufficient to get it running once more. ‘VY5876’ comes to us from a large private collection of an individual enthusiast and is offered here with NO RESERVE.The BB version of Ford and Fordson trucks followed the model A cars and associated AA commercial vehicles. The BB was much revised with a longer wheelbase, stronger frames for heavy duty payloads and beefed up transmissions, springs, and axles. Even the vulnerable wire wheels were replaced by reinforced steel wheels. As was the way at the time, the BB trucks were sold with just chassis, engine and cab and a naked rear frame, allowing independent coachbuilders to modify them for a range of specific purposes. The BB was offered in standard four cylinder “B” engine guise or optional Flat Head V8 form. ‘VY5876’ presents in tanker configuration painted green, black and red and expertly sign written in Pratts Motor Spirit livery. The utilitarian cabin is finished in black leather. Bodywork, paintwork and interior are judged as “average.”‘VY5876’ is believed to be powered by the four-cylinder, side valve Ford B engine. This unit is renowned as a simple, reliable and durable unit widely used in both Ford cars and trucks of the period. The B engine is a 200 cubic inch, or 3.3-litre, unit and was originally thought to produce around 50 horsepower. This is paired with a four speed manual transmission in this iteration. ‘VY5876’s’ engine is rated as "average” with the transmission and electrics gaining an “average” rating. In summary:A striking looking 1934 Fordson tanker being a perfect candidate as a show vehicleExpertly sign written in Pratts Motor Spirit liveryA Dagenham built example of the esteemed BB truck

Lot 242

Previous ownership for 25 yearsRestored exampleThe Ford E83W, also sold under the Fordson brand, was a 10cwt (half ton) light commercial vehicle, built at the UK's Dagenham plant between 1938 and 1957. They were powered by the 1172cc Ford side valve engine, with a commercial gearbox, and were equipped with a very low ratio differential, making them much slower than the saloons, but giving them far greater torque.Anthony Hoists Ltd was a coachbuilder who specialized in modifying new commercial vehicles for the major motoring manufacturers, they built the steel back bodies for the E83W and others, with the Fords it was listed as a Builders Truck, rather than a Pick-up, it was certainly much beefier than the standard Ford offering which was made from wood. The E83W was aimed at the small haulage and support vehicle market. Vans were the most common, along with builders' flatbed Pick-ups with wooden side and tail boards. The rarest by far is the steel back Side-Step Pick-up, with less than 20 known to exist in the world.Offered here is an extremely rare Ford E83W. Acquired by the previous vendor in 1997, it was extensively restored and was dry stored since its restoration until sold in 2022. In excellent condition the Pick-up looks superb and was used for shows and classic car rallies throughout its last tenure. Offered with various sundry invoices, old MoT test certificates and the current UK registration document. Coming to the open market for the second time in the last two decades, this wonderful example provides huge amounts of fun for the new owner. Consigned by James Good Interested parties should note that we understand this vehicle has been running and has driven but is a non-runner presently which could be just a battery, but further inspection would be advised. • Restored in 2012 by marque specialist Charles Ware of Bristol• Presented in wonderful conditionThe Morris Minor was a British economy car that debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show on 20th September 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, over 1.3 million examples were manufactured from 1948-1971. Initially available as a two-door saloon and convertible, the range was subsequently expanded to include a four-door saloon in 1950 and wood-framed estate, The Traveller, plus the panel van and pick-up truck variants in 1952. The Minor was manufactured in three series; Series I, Series II (1952) and finally the 1000 Series such as the car offered today. These 1000 Series cars benefitted from an engine which was increased in capacity to 948cc and are differentiated from earlier examples of the marque by their curved one-piece windscreen replacing the two-piece split windscreen and an enlarged rear window. Other modifications specific to this car is a new dashboard layout including a lidded glove box on both the driver and passenger side of the dashboard. This superb example of this iconic British saloon car is presented in British Racing Green with a red interior, all of which are in wonderful condition throughout. It has been in the current ownership for the last 15 years and in 2012 the car was completely restored by the renowned Morris Minor specialists Charles Ware in Bristol, when approximately £8,000 was spent on it. It comes with restoration receipts, certificates and ownership history. Its condition today is testament to the quality of workmanship carried out by the team at Charles Ware, with the current owner scoring 10/10 in condition for engine, body, chassis and paintwork. This is truly a wonderful Morris Minor which is ready to be enjoyed. Rare modelHand operated tipperThe 1963 Thames Tipper Lorry, produced by Ford’s UK commercial division, was a sturdy and dependable workhorse designed for heavy-duty tasks. Built on the Thames Trader platform, it featured a robust chassis and tipping bed ideal for construction, quarrying, and industrial work. Powered by reliable diesel or petrol engines, it delivered ample torque for hauling loads across varied terrain. Its cab-forward design improved visibility and maneuverability, while simple mechanicals made maintenance straightforward. Popular throughout Britain in the post-war industrial boom, the Thames Tipper became a symbol of gritty productivity, earning a reputation for toughness that endears it to vintage truck enthusiasts today.Originally registered in March 1963, this rare example is believed to be one of the only remaining tipper models with a manual operation. This impressive example has benefitted from an earlier restoration and presents extremely well in blue coachwork and features drop sides to the rear. This Thames 15 is ideally suited to being sign-written, used as intended or, given the recent popularity of good commercial models, it would grace any serious collection. Presented to auction with a V5C registration document and realistically estimated, this tipper deserves further investigation.
