An early Japanese Wakizashi Sword, Muromachi period (1336-1573), Signed Sobei Kao, 1500's, Province of Bizen, Osafune Ju Sukesada, with leather and sharkskin handle with ornate ornaments and mounts, and decorative Tsuba, issuing steel blade, approx. 56cms long (22"), housed in scabbard, as a weapon, w.a.f. A Japanese katana in leather covered scabbard, the shagreen and silk wound handle with menuki to each side of exotic birds, the plain iron tsuba with holes for kozuka and kugai bearing two part signature, the fullered slightly curved blade with standard shaped tang bearing ten character signature and three further characters verso, blade length including tang 86 cm CONDITION REPORTS The length of the blade is 64 cm, length of the scabbard is 71 cm. The metal collar to the scabbard is off and loose and also has a cut to it. Has significant wear and scuffing to the leather. One of the poppers is broken. The metal hanging hoops are rusted/patinated. The sword itself - the blade is rusting variously in areas. The katana is loose. There seems to be a couple of pieces missing from the handle as there is a hole to the base. Some of the stringing is gapping and there are gaps to the areas of shagreen. Some signs of verdigris etc to the metal, in need of a good clean and some TLC. General wear and tear conducive with age and use - see images for more details

A Japanese shin gunto katana, the 69cm blade broken in two 29cm from the tip, having a signed tang, copper habaki, floral embossed tsuba and samegawa wrapped tsuka, housed on a brass mounted steel saya. 94cm.The vendor states that this sword was accquired by a Mr Gunn ex Cambs Regt of 14 Frog End, Gt Wilbraham, the sword was apparently surrendered by a Japanese officer who pulled the blade out and snapped it, before being shot.
Japanese sword, katana, signed Tadayoshi (Kawashima Zenzaemon), 67cm blade, Showa 19 (July 1944), plain tsuba, bound fish skin handle, leather covered saya, together with a Japanese sword kit including handle pin hammer and blade polishing, three cloth bags. A small ceremonial wakizashi sword made at the end of the Meiji era demonstrates the highest level of craftsmanship by Japanese artisans at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries. The handle and sheath are completely covered with detailed bone carvings depicting scenes from mythology, samurai battle scenes, and traditional ornamental motifs. The guard (tsuba) is made of metal with gilded elements, creating a harmonious combination with the skillful bone carving. The steel blade has a slight curvature characteristic of traditional wakizashi and is decorated with engravings depicting dragons and plant motifs. The scabbard is decorated with three-dimensional reliefs, including symbols of luck and strength, such as mythical creatures, a dragon and heroic characters from Japanese epics.
