BERNSTEIN LEONARD: (1918-1990) American conductor, pianist & composer of the Broadway musical West Side Story. A scarce, early vintage signed postcard photograph of Bernstein in a profile head and shoulders pose at Teatro alla Scala in Milan and bearing the opera house's credit stamp to the verso. Signed by Bernstein in blue ink with his name alone to the lower white border. The signature is a little light in places, although reasonably legible. An historic signed image. VGIn 1953 Bernstein became the first American conductor to appear at La Scala, conducting Maria Callas in Cherubini's Medea, directed by Luchino Visconti.

An extremely rare L.S., `Vladislaus Rex´, one page, folio, Royal Palace, 8th March 1635, to Archbishop of Larissa, in Italian. The King of Poland refers to `Your Holiness´ and to funds he is expecting to receive from the Pope, stating in part `...Si compaccia Vostra Signoria consegnar al segretario nostro..., de tre continenti la remessa... da Su Santita de dieci mila florini. Che venendo il detto per denarle di nostra commission... di darle in sicura mano a nostro segretario...´ (Translation: "...May Your Lordship be pleased to deliver to our secretary..., from the three continents the remittance... from His Holiness of ten thousand florins. DAVID BOWIE - DAVID BOWIE LP (ORIGINAL PHILIPS UK WHITE LABEL TEST PRESSING WITH PROVENANCE). It's holy grail time for Bowie collectors with this original UK white label test pressing of David Bowie's self-titled LP from 1969 that would later become Space Oddity (commercially released as Philips SBL 7912). The matrix (852146 1Y1/852146 2Y1) is interestingly different on this test pressing as the matrix used on the stock release (which used 1Y//2 & 2Y//2) with this therefore the very first mix of the album. The record is in VG condition with scuffs/ surface marks on both sides of the vinyl, including a feelable hairline mark on A2. The white centre labels are clean with writing in pen on both sides. This record was gifted to Mary Finnegan (a friend of David Bowie) by Tony Visconti in the Autumn of 1969. This lot is complete with a handwritten letter of authenticity by Mary Finnegan in 1993. DAVID BOWIE - THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD LP (ORIGINAL DRESS SLEEVE COPY - 'TONNY' - MERCURY 6338 041). An original first UK pressing of the iconic 1971 LP from David Bowie. This copy features the controversial and quickly withdrawn 'dress' sleeve and contains the misspelling of Tony Visconti on the labels showing 'Tonny' on both sides. The record is in glossy VG condition, each side displays some surface marks/ hairlines - none of which are feelable. The black/ silver text labels are bright and legible with light spindle markings around the centre holes. Matrix/runout: 6338041 1Y//1 ∇ 420 1 1 3 & 2Y//1 ∇ 420 1 1 1. The iconic original textured 'dress' sleeve is in VG condition with light creasing due to water damage and wear to the edges.

VISCONTI LUCHINO: (1906-1976) Italian filmmaker, opera and theatre director, considered one of the fathers of cinematic neorealism. A good vintage signed and inscribed 7 x 9.5 photograph of the director in a close-up profile study with one finger raised to his lips during a pause in the filming of his historical drama movie The Damned (1969). Signed by Visconti in bold black ink to a light area at the base of the image. VGProvenance: The present photograph was signed for Carlo Giovetti (1916-1999) Italian journalist in the film and entertainment sector who worked for various newspapers including Il Giorno.

WLADYSLAW IV VASA: (1595-1648) King of Poland 1632-48. A renowned Patron of the Arts. Wladyslaw gained fame when he defeated the Ottoman Empire and was elected Tsar of Russia by the Seven Boyars in 1610, although he did not accept the Russian throne. An extremely rare L.S., `Vladislaus Rex´, one page, folio, Royal Palace, 8th March 1635, to Archbishop of Larissa, in Italian. The King of Poland refers to `Your Holiness´ and to funds he is expecting to receive from the Pope, stating in part `...Si compaccia Vostra Signoria consegnar al segretario nostro..., de tre continenti la remessa... da Su Santita de dieci mila florini. Che venendo il detto per denarle di nostra commission... di darle in sicura mano a nostro segretario...´ (Translation: "...May Your Lordship be pleased to deliver to our secretary..., from the three continents the remittance... from His Holiness of ten thousand florins. That the said one has come to inform you of our commission... to deliver them into the safe hands of our secretary...") The document bears to the front a small red wax seal partially damaged alongside the King´s signature. With address leaf to the verso. Overall age wear, creasing and staining. MAXIMILIAN III ARCHDUKE OF AUSTRIA: (1558-1618) Archduke of Austria 1612-18. Maximilian III was a member of the House of Habsburg, and the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. Count of Tyrol. He was also briefly known as Maximilian of Poland during his claim for the Polish throne, being the contested King of Poland 1587-89. A rare L.S., `Maximilianus´, one page, folio, Hattwan, 6th September 1596, to Reverend Alphonso Visconti, Bishop of cernia and apostolic nuntio to the Principality of Transylvania, in Latin. Maximilian acknowledges receipt of his correspondent´s letters and refers to the struggles with what they call "Bulgarians", stating in part `...we stand firm in the province of those known as Bulgarians, as best we realized and, just as we did before, we exhort you to continue with what you do... and remember the Most Illustrious Prince of Transylvania,... when bringing poverty´. Further adding `As much as you can do, by interposing yourselves, so that the tempest may come upon these, and before the enemies oppress us, this freedom may be claimed, so that if this one can do less to escape the calamity that is coming...´ Countersigned at the base. Its interior, used by Luchino Visconti as a location for Il Gattopardo (1963), or The Leopard, is now divided into a Piano Nobile, Cardinal's Rooms, and a small museum dedicated to the Roman baroque.

Visconti Ponte Vecchio triple fountain pen limited edition set with box, papers and protective cardboard sleeve. This set was limited to 1345 (825/1345), they were introduced by Visconti in 1995 to commemorate the 650 years of the Pontevecchio bridge in Florence. The caps and barrels are made of rolled celluloid allowing Visconti to use these bright colours that are not seen on their other models, Granite, Adriatic and Pompeii, with matching inserts in cap top. Visconti Voyager Platinum Arc 1935 limited edition fountain pen, with box, outer box and booklet. Visconti produced this Voyager model taking platinum arc material to fabricate a limited series of just 35 pens (10/35). Panelled platinum arc with black and likely platinum plated trim with mahogany and briar wood decorative box, 18 K 750 Visconti medium nib. Length 5 9/16†and 6 11/16†posted, filling mechanism plunger fill. Overall near mint condition, pen appears unused, outer cardboard box has two small flaps missing on one side (large flap intact).

Visconti Giacomo Leopardi limited edition fountain pen with box, papers and protective cardboard sleeve. In 1998 Visconti released this fountain pen to commemorate the bi-centenary of the birth of Giacomo Leopardi, one of greatest Italian poets. This pen was limited to 2000 (451/2000). Sterling silver cap and barrel overlay with 19th century style embellishments along with his poem “The Infinite†engraved on the barrel with Visconti 14 K medium nib. Unusual in that it is marked Visconti Amigdala on the upper cap near clip screw but has no other markings, potentially a later offering than the You & Me limited edition series. Overall excellent condition, pen appears to have never been filled, slight darkening to clip, one tab of outer box creased.

Visconti Voyager demonstrator limited edition fountain pen with box, outer box and warranty papers. This limited edition pen had 888 produced (852/888), with medium 18k two-tone Visconti 750 nib. Length 5 5/8†and 6 3/4†posted, filling mechanism plunger fill. Overall excellent condition with some slight wear to clip, outer box shows wear to edges.

Visconti made Ulysee Nardin limited edition sterling silver fountain pen and travelling inkwell with decorative wood box, booklet and warranty card. In 2011 Ulysee Nardin saw an opportunity to pair a special pen set with their watches and commissioned Visconti to produce this set. Visconti then produced this very limited production pen using their bayonet style cap and matching traveling inkwell. It was made in sterling silver and 18 K gold, this being the sterling silver, marked #14 on clip and warranty card (likely only 50-100 pieces made). Anchor and the rope motif in sterling silver on bright blue resin with 18 K medium nib. Length 5 3/4†and 7 1/8†posted, filling mechanism vacuum fill. Overall excellent condition with light use, some scratching to top of box and minor wear to interior of box.
