On a green stained handle with unmarked silver cross piece, mount and studs to the grip. 74.5 cm. This is a type of sword that might have been carried by a French Naval Officer during the American War of Independence, perhaps later captured by a British Naval officer. CR* Slight wear, slight chip and cracking to grip. Signs of engraving to the blade now rubbed.
AN 1888 PATTERN BAYONET AND SCABBARD, AND A FRENCH CHASSEPOT BAYONET. An 1888 pattern bayonet with a 30 cm pointed, double edged blade stamped 'Mole' and with a Government issue , and '8 89' to the ricasso. With a two part wooden grip, in a steel mounted leather scabbard. 44 cm. A Chassepot type bayonet with 57 cm yataghan blade, 69 cm. CR* First with light rust to mounts on scabbard, blade good, second with some pitting.
An unusual WW2 era German Kriegsmarine Dagger, featuring white metal plated mounts, rather than the usual gilt brass, indicating that perhaps it was a Kriegsmarine Administration Officer’s dagger. Sadly now in almost relic condition, but featuring the usual double edged blade with double fuller, plus etched decoration, but this has now been mostly obliterated by pitting and discolouration to the blade. Maker mark at the ricasso for E&F Horster, Solingen, using their usual oval shaped trademark. Standard cross guard with fouled anchor motif to moth sides, and a button release catch for the blade. The grip is cream / white celluloid over a wooden core, with the usual spiral groove for its twist wire binding, but the binding is absent. Eagle clutching a swastika pommel, with part of its screw fitting exposed. The scabbard is of the standard pattern, with 2 oak leaf patterned bands supporting the suspension rings, plus stylised lightning bolt patterns, and 2 small round head screws at the throat area. Notes: the metal used on the fittings and scabbard appears to be a copper or bronze base metal that has been plated with aluminium. There are areas of wear to the white metal finish, and and deep chocolate brown base metal is showing through, which is indicative of patinated copper or bronze. Approximately 42cm length in scabbard, blade length 24.2cm. The only magnetic part of the dagger seems to be the blade. Together with a French Chassepot bayonet, with ribbed brass grip and Yataghan styled blade. Scabbard absent. Condition: both pieces in semi relic condition. The Kriegsmarine dagger has some of its celluloid grip missing, and part of the wooden core and wire binding. The metal fittings are oxidised in places, and the coppery base metal is showing through in areas. The blade is pitted and discoloured, but the blade release catch works as it should. The pommel part turns on its screw, and there is some play to it. The scabbard has remained mostly intact, with normal service wear to the plated surface, just a little oxidisation, and some of the base metal showing through. The Chassepot has an all over dark patina, with the brass grip being a deep brown colour, and the steel parts having a pitted surface, meaning there are no marks visible.
