Tekla Meladze (Georgian, born 2000) Bread and Wine signed in Latin (lower right); further signed, dated '2024' (verso) oil on canvas 80 x 120cm (31 1/2 x 47 1/4in). Footnotes: Tekla Meladze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2000. By just 13, she had already achieved the distinction of being the youngest artist to exhibit at both Art Expo New York and the prestigious 58th Venice Biennale, where she proudly represented her home country of Georgia. Meladze's artistic vision draws deeply from Georgia's rich cultural heritage, incorporating elements of the nation's ancient gold mines, polyphonic musical traditions, kvervi winemaking practices, and breathtaking natural landscapes. Her distinctive style, which prominent art historian Dr. Gogi Khoshtaria of the G. Ghubinashvili Centre has termed 'Monotonism,' features the meditative application of gold paint that creates a liminal space between reality and dream, establishing what Khoshtaria describes as 'the vision and hand of a mature creator' despite her youth. Beyond her national exhibitions, Meladze has continued to expand her international presence, including a notable 2022 exhibition at New York's On the Fringe Gallery.
