Footnotes: 宋/遼 玉鏤雕花鳥紋帶板 Provenance: The Peony Collection Exhibited, Published and Illustrated: A. Forsyth and B. McElney, Jades from China, The Museum Of East Asian Art, Bath, 1994, p.313, no.221 來源: 牡丹堂收藏 展覽著錄: A. Forsyth及B. McElney,《Jades from China》,東亞藝術博物館,巴斯,1994年,頁313,編號221 The representation of a formal garden in works of art other than paintings was a popular diversion in Northern Song dynasty. The same subject is found moulded in the cavetto of Northern Song Ding ware production. Representations in jade seem to be extremely rare. During the Northern Song dynasty, depictions of formal gardens in works of art beyond painting were a favored theme. This subject also appears as moulded decoration in Northern Song Ding ware. However, representations of formal gardens rendered in jade are notably rare.
