BYRON (ANNE ISABELLA NOEL) Daguerreotype portrait of Lady Byron, the wife of George Gordon Byron, by an unidentified photographer, showing her in older age seated and resting her head on her right hand, with a column and heavy draperies in the background, sixth-plate daguerreotype, the face tinted in pink, lace and other details heightened in white, oxidation around perimeter, in velvet-lined maroon morocco case, overall 90 x 80mm., [c.1850] Footnotes: Lady Byron was an educational reformer and philanthropist who established the first industrial school in England, and was an active abolitionist. She married Byron in 1815 but separated from him after less than a year, retaining custody of their daughter Ada (later Countess of Lovelace). Provenance: By descent within the family of her daughter, Ada Lovelace; Lady Wentworth, presumably Judith (1873-1957), the great-granddaughter of Anne Isabella Noel Byron; Doris Langley Moore (1903-1989); Sotheby's, 19-20 July 1993, lot 246 (included in a larger group lot from the collection of Moore, the daguerreotypes within this group originally 'from the collection of Lady Wentworth'); Marlborough Rare Books, from whom acquired on 9 September 1993 by the present owner, Geoffrey Bond. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
