AMERICAS OGILBY (JOHN) America: Being the Latest, and Most Accurate Description of the New World, FIRST EDITION, title printed in red and black, additional engraved allegorical title, 57 engraved plates (comprising 6 portraits, 19 engraved double-page maps and 32 double-page views), 66 engraved illustrations in text, woodcut initials, head- and tail-pieces, map of Peru with tear affecting plate, occasional spotting and light toning, contemporary panelled calf, rebacked [ESTC R16958; Sabin 50089; Wing O165], folio (420 x 270mm.), Printed by the Author, 1671 Footnotes: Ogilby's work is an unacknowledged translation of Montanus's De nieuwe en Onbekeende Weereld, also published in Amsterdam in 1671, but with considerable additions on New England and New France, Maryland and Virginia, using for the most part English materials. The majority of the plates are reprints of the original Dutch plates, which provide vivid illustrations of the New World. This is the English edition, complete with the Arx Carolina view and map of Virginia and Florida. Buyers' Premium and Charges
For all Sales categories, buyer's premium excluding Cars, Motorbikes, Wine, Whisky and Coin & Medal sales, will be as follows:
Buyer's Premium Rates
28% on the first £40,000 of the hammer price;
27% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £40,000 up to and including £800,000;
21% of the hammer price of amounts in excess of £800,000 up to and including £4,500,000;
and 14.5% of the hammer price of any amounts in excess of £4,500,000.
A 3rd party bidding platform fee of 4% of the Hammer Price for Buyers using the following bidding platforms will be added to the invoices of successful Buyers for auctions starting on or after 6th July 2024 – Invaluable; Live Auctioneers; The Saleroom; Lot-tissimo.
VAT at the current rate of 20% will be added to the Buyer's Premium and charges excluding Artists Resale Right.
