DOMINGOS JOSÉ DE CASTRO - SÉC. XX, Monde Féodal - Angleterre et Écosse - XIV - XV Siècles - Cavaliers en grande tenue heraldique - MCCLXXXIII - MCCCCLXII, set of 29 original polychrome illuminations in gouache, gilt and silver on parchment in the medieval style, the page with the illumination of each knight preceded by a page with his title or name and heraldic description of his coat of arms in Gothic calligraphy, numbered from 1 to 29, with the respective index handwritten in Gothic calligraphy, bound in a single volume and respective box lined with parchment by Frederico de Almeida, 20th C. (the 60s), box and cover with signs of use, wear on spine, signed. Notes: 1. Illuminator and calligrapher, the Author (Domingos) José de Castro, was also an ethnographer, author of the illustrated work Ethnographic Studies, I vol.: Aveiro (Beira Litoral), ed. by Inst. for High Culture, 1943 referred to in the Bulletin of the Aveiro City Council in https://ww3.aeje.pt/avcultur/AvCultur/BoleMuniAv/Bolet006/Bol06_28.htm, who considers it a fundamental work for any ethnographic work on the Ria; 2. Several horsemen represented in the illuminations in question were faithfully reproduced by the Sacavém Crockery Factory, according to the respective 1968 price list, mentioned in the Exhibition catalogue "Loiça de Sacavém na Memória da Vida Portuguesa - Miguel Calado Collection - Municipal Museum of Portalegre March 26 - October 30, 2022, and it is presumed that the set was commissioned for this purpose from the Author by Leland Gilbert in the 1960s. 20th; 3. Vd. also "Desenhos e Fotografias das Figuras Militares - Cavaleiros Medievais" pages 14 to 20 from the catalogue of the Documentary Exhibition entitled "Figuras Militares na produção da Fábrica de Loiça de Sacavém" February-June 2019 - Sacavém Ceramics Museum Documentation Centre., Dim. - cada folha: 19,75 x 5,5 cm
