Description
MANUSCRIPT.- QUEIROZ, José Maria Eça de (1845-1900).- O Primo Bazílio.- 19th C. (ca. 1875/1876).- 2 f.; 400x124 mm e 427x128 mm., Autograph manuscripts in ink (not signed), on two sheets (written on both sides of the sheets) in an elongated format, usually called “single sheets”, ready for typography, with numerous amendments and crossed out lines. Sheet 1 (400x124 mm): ±50 lines, with indication 321/1 and 321/2; Sheet 2 (427x128 mm): ± 45 lines. These are probably two fragments from a first version of the novel, which was initially intended to be entitled “O Primo João de Brito” and whose pages are currently scattered. In this regard, one should see the detailed description by Ernesto Guerra Da Cal (Lengua y estilo de Eça de Queiroz: bibliografia queirociana, tomo 1º, Coimbra, 1975), no. 1418. It should be remembered that the first edition of the novel, written entirely during Eça's stay in Newcastle, was published in 1878, in Porto, by Livraria Internacional de Ernesto & Eugenio Chardron (Guerra Da Cal, nº 95). The framed set, between two panes of glass, with a passepartous featuring two windows to facilitate reading.
