O.B.E. (Civil) London Gazette 1 January 1951: William Young Sandeman, Esq., M.C., M.I.C.E., Civil Engineer, Railway Executive, Scottish Region.

William Young Sandeman was born on 3 February 1890 and was educated at Daniel Stewart’s College, Edinburgh, and Edinburgh University. Employed by the Assistant Engineer’s Department, North British Railway, Edinburgh, from 1912, he embarked upon a civil engineering career on the railways, and prior to the Great War was involved in the alterations and extensions to Dunbar station. Commissioned temporary Second Lieutenant in the Royal Engineers on 16 December 1915, and served with the Field Company during the Great War on the Western Front; was advanced Lieutenant; and was awarded the Military Cross.
Following the cessation of hostilities, Sandeman resumed his railway career, and was ultimately appointed Chief Engineer of the Scottish Area, London and North East Railway, and also Engineer to the Forth Bridge Railway Company. Following the nationalisation of the railways he was appointed Chief Engineer, Scottish Regiment. Appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 1951 New Year’s Honours’ List, he retired that same year, and died on 10 April 1962.
Sold with a copy of the recipient’s Institute of Civil Engineers Obituary, which gives further details of his railway career.

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
Shipping Exceptions
