A delicate early work by the pioneering Irish modernist, depicting a quietly introspective woman seated at a table, rendered in soft, gestural lines and subtle colour accents. Created during Swanzy’s formative years in Paris, the drawing reflects both her academic training and early explorations of modernist expression. Presented in a gilt frame with triple mount. PICTURES AND PRINTS Tuesday 16th September 2025 19:55:50 Biography MARY SWANZY HRHA (1882 - 1978) Mary Swanzy was one of Ireland’s first modernist painters, notable for her pioneering role in bringing Cubism, Futurism, and Symbolism into Irish art. Educated in Dublin, Paris, and abroad, she exhibited internationally and was made an honorary member of the RHA. Her diverse body of work ranged from portraiture and landscape to spiritual and abstract themes, unified by her constant innovation and deep artistic intellect.
