The composition captures a serene cliffside path overlooking the sea, bordered by wild grasses and windswept trees. Soft pastel tones and fluid brushwork evoke the gentle light and fresh air of the coast, typical of Butler’s refined naturalistic style. Signed lower right and presented in a gilt frame with textured gold mount under glass.

MILDRED ANNE BUTLER RA RWS (1858 - 1941)
Mildred Anne Butler R.W.S. was a renowned Irish painter associated with the Newlyn School and known for her masterful watercolours of landscapes, gardens, and animals. Elected to the Royal Watercolour Society in 1893, she was one of the few Irish women artists of her time to achieve significant recognition. Her sensitive, light-filled works are held in many major collections, including the National Gallery of Ireland.
