Isidore-Jules Bonheur (French, 1827-1901) Horse and Jockey, After the Race Circa 1880 Bronze with a dark brown patina with golden highlights Prior to casting signed 'I. Bonheur' and cold stamped in the bronze 'Peyrol Editeur' This model comes in 3 sizes, the present medium version at 24” (60 cm), a large version at 38" (95cm) and the smallest at 12” (30cm). In the early years of his career, Bonheur cast his own work, however, later much of the production was taken on by his brother-in-law, the celebrated Parisian founder, Hippolyte Peyrol. The present example is stamped 'Peyrol Editeur' confirming that this example was both cast and 'edited' by Peyrol which accounts for its exceptional quality. At that time an ‘Editeur’ was responsible for promoting and selling a particular sculpture. Exhibitions: Paris Salon, 1879 Exposition Nationale des Beaux Arts, 1883 Exposition Universelle, 1889 Collections: San Isidro Racetrack, Buenos Aires, Argentina Model Illustrated: Jane Horswell.
