British school Circa 1800 Portrait miniature of Captain James Oliver Watercolour and gouache on paper laid on card Another portrait miniature of Captain James Oliver exists, dated c. 1799 and in the collection of the King's Own Royal Regiment Museum, Lancaster. James Ward Oliver served in the 4th Kings Own Regiment and volunteered to serve in the Portuguese Army where he commanded the 14th Infantry at Albuera and at the second siege of Badajoz. He died on active service and is buried at Elvas in Portugal. Dimensions: (Frame) 5.5 in. (H) x 4.5 in. (W) (Paper) 3 in. (H) x 2.5 in. (W)
