Description
A large and impressive Chinese soapstone carving - probably mid-20th century, in celadon soapstone streaked with ochre and russet coloured inclusions, finely carved with fish, crustaceans, starfish and molluscs amidst seaweed and coral, the carving standing upon a marbled grey base carved as stylised waves, 43.5cm high, 29cm wide.
* In good condition overall, with just a scattering of tiny nicks to the raised detail to the carving. There are also a scattering of small nicks and bruises to the grey stone 'wave' base. One small chip to the edge of one of the sword shaped leaves and a small chip to the tip of another leaf. One small chip to the edge of the wave to the right hand side of the base. No other faults and no repairs.
