Set of two commemorative uncut banknote sheets issued by the Bank of Israel and presented in official display folders. One sheet features three 1000 shekel notes from 1983 with the portrait of Maimonides, while the other features three 5000 shekel notes from 1984 with the portrait of Levi Eshkol. HM QUEEN ELIZABETH II, CORONATION 1953 A VERY RARE WATERMARK PORTRAIT watermark portrait on blue paper framed and under glassimage size 55cm x 40cm, overall size 59cm x 44cmNote: A presentation watermark portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II by Portals Ltd in 1953, a bespoke, framed portrait. The first two of these watermark portraits were gifted (in 1953) to Her Majesty to commemorate her coronation in 1953 and are now held (and documented) in the Royal Collection. A small additional number were produced as gifts for some of the dignitaries and Heads of State who attended. The V&A also hold an example. Portals Ltd has a history dating back more than 300 years, and has supplied banknote paper to the Bank of England since 1724 prior to the switch to polymer substrates.

MIRO JOAN: (1893-1983) Spanish painter. A United States of America Federal Reserve One Dollar banknote featuring an original, bold purple crayon illustration by Miro (unsigned) to the recto, the abstract drawing open to interpretation, but possibly a representation of the Scales of Justice, imaginatively placed by Miro over the central portrait of George Washington. Accompanied by the original air mail envelope hand addressed by Miro to Madame Henriette Gomès at Rue du Cirque, Paris, signed (´Miro´) by the artist to the upper left corner and post marked at Paris, 10th July 1958. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VGHenriette Gomès (d.1986) was a French art gallery owner who had been a model for Jules Pascin in the 1920s. Gomès first met Miro in 1934 and the two remained lifelong friends, and Gomès also collected several of Miro´s object-sculptures. The Galerie Henriette Gomès at Rue du Cirque exhibited works by Picasso, Balthus, Calder, Giacometti and Man Ray amongst others.
MONET CLAUDE: (1840-1926) French Impressionist painter. A.L.S., Claude Monet, two pages (written to the first and third sides of the bifolium, in Monet´s characteristic bold purple ink), 8vo, Giverny par Vernon, Eure, 21st March 1906, to Messrs. Perivier and Ollendorff of Gil Blas, in French. Monet writes, in part, ´ En réponse à votre lettre du 15 ct j´ai l´honneur de vous répondre qu´il ne m´est pas possible de participer à la tombola que vous organisez en faveur des sinistrés du Courrieres et n´ayant rien de possible à donner je vous ferai donc de recevoir ce modeste billet de cent fr. qui vous prouvera mon bon vouloir et la part que je prends à cette terrible catastrophe´ (Translation: ´ In reply to your letter of the 15th inst. I have the honour to inform you that it is not possible for me to take part in the raffle that you are organising in aid of the victims of the Courrieres disaster and as I have nothing to give, please accept this modest banknote for one hundred francs as proof of my goodwill and my sympathy in the face of this terrible catastrophe´). One very tiny pinhole to the upper edge of each page, VGGil Blas was a Parisian literary periodical founded in 1879 which serialised novels by Emile Zola and others, as well as publishing many short stories of Guy de Maupassant for the first time.On 10th March 1906 Europe´s worst mining accident had occurred when the Courrieres mining disaster caused the death of 1,099 miners in Northern France.

Als Maler schuf er überwiegend Genreszenen, als Graphiker und Illustrator zumeist dem Jugendstil verwandte Märchenbilder und Illustrationen. 1880 bis 1884 studierte er an der Wiener Akademie der bildenden Künste bei Christian Griepenkerl, danach an der Münchner Kunstakademie bei Nikolaus Gysis und Wilhelm von Diez. Ab 1897 arbeitete Lefler eng mit Joseph Urban zusammen, der durch Heirat der Schwester Leflers sein Schwager wurde. 1900 wurde Lefler gemeinsam mit Urban Initiator und Mitbegründer des Hagenbundes (Mitglied bis 1909, 1902 erster Präsident); er entwarf das Plakat für die 1. und Eröffnungs-Ausstellung des Hagenbundes (I-III/1902). 1900 bis 1903 wirkte er unter der Direktion Gustav Mahlers als Ausstattungsleiter an der Wiener Hofoper, 1903 bis 1910 war er Professor an der Wiener Akademie der bildenden Künste. Er wurde seinem Mitbewerber Gustav Klimt vorgezogen. Schüler Leflers waren z.B. Rudolf Junk und kurzzeitig auch Richard Gerstl. Gemeinsam mit Urban schuf Lefler zahlreiche Illustrationen für Märchenbücher und Kalender (Verlag Gerlach), sowie auch die Fresken im Wiener Rathuauskeller. Weitere Gelegegenheit zur Zusammenarbeit mit Urban boten der Schiller-Fest-Umzug 1905, und der Ringstraßen-Umzug anlässlich des Kaiser-Jubiläums 1908. Lefler schuf Bühnenbilder und Kostüme, u.a. für die Metropolitan Opera New York (1902), die Wiener Hof- und Volksoper und für deutsche Bühnen. Als Kunstgwerbler entwarf er Möbeln, Wandschirme, Kassetten, Stickereien und Fächer. Als Plakatkünstler war Lefler einer der ersten Österreicher, die sich mit Firmen- und Ausstellungsplakaten befassten (z.B. „Auer-Licht“ oder für Krupp-Berndorf). 1902 entwarf Lefler gemeinsam mit Urban eine 1000-Kronen-Banknote, welches ein Porträt von Leflers späterer Frau zierte, der Opernsängerin Mina Wiesmüller.
