The Chris Skellern Collection 1966 Honda CL160 Registration no. HOV 23D Frame no. CL160-1020731 Engine no. L160E-1020760 Launched in 1964, the CB160 followed the pattern of previous Honda parallel twins, though with 360-degree crankshaft layout rather than the larger twins' 180-degree type, and used the recently introduced tubular spine frame and telescopic forks. Small as a '125' yet packing a 16.5bhp punch, the CB160's excellent power-to-weight ratio and fine handling endowed it with performance at least equal to that of most British 250s. With an overhead-camshaft engine, electric starter, rev counter and a twin-leading-shoe front brake, the CB160's specification and degree of refinement was unmatched by any its home-grown rivals. It is now one of the most desirable of early Japanese classics. As was Honda's standard practice at the time, there was also a CL street scrambler version with upswept crossover exhaust system, as seen here. Imported from the USA, this CL160 was first registered in the UK on 1st August 2013 to the vendor's company but has since been re-registered to him personally. The machine was restored circa 2012 and comes with a substantial quantity of invoices relating to parts and services purchased for the rebuild. The engine was rebuilt by the vendors dealership workshop and included new piston rings, cam chain, new gear change shaft, kick start shaft and gears, seals and gaskets. The carburettors have also been ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt. Since the latter's completion the Honda has covered some 1,400 miles (the current odometer reading is 12,538 miles). Additional documentation includes DVLA correspondence; a V5C Registration Certificate; and five MoTs (most recent expired October 2018). Offered with key Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. AUCTION INFORMATION & GUIDE FOR BUYERS Please see the Auction Information and Guide for Buyers at the top of the main sale page (Motorcycles Online - The Summer Sale) for all pertinent information regarding bidder's obligations, viewing, bidding, payment, post-sale collection & transportation.
