The Chris Skellern Collection 1966 Bridgestone 175 Hurricane Scrambler Registration no. HDE 158D Frame no. TA1-21840 Engine no. TA1 - 21840 Established in 1931 as a tyre manufacturer, Bridgestone also built motorcycles between 1952 and the early 1970s, establishing an unrivalled reputation for design innovation and engineering excellence. The firm started by using proprietary engines provided by the Fuji Precision Industry Company (later reconstituted as Prince Motors) before acquiring its engine supplier in 1960. By the decade's end the Ageo City plant was capable of turning out 250,000 motorcycles and 350,000 bicycles annually. Bridgestone commenced with a range of mopeds before moving up market with a range of disc-valve induction two-strokes that was topped by the legendary 350 GTR. The smallest twin-cylinder model displaced 175cc and was available in two versions: the Dual Twin roadster and Hurricane Scrambler, the latter featuring upswept exhausts. A maximum power output of 20bhp was claimed for the 175s, which was good enough for a top speed of more than 80mph. This rare Hurricane Scrambler was imported from the USA and first UK registered on 1st March 2024; our vendor is the sole UK owner. Since the Bridgestone's acquisition the carburettors cleaned; and new spokes, tyres, chain, sprockets, carburettor rubbers and exhaust seals fitted. The fuel tank has been re-chromed but the centre has not yet been painted. The current odometer reading is 7,700 miles. Accompanying documentation consists of a V5C Registration Certificate; DVLA correspondence; and a quantity of invoices for parts and services used in the bike's restoration. Offered with key Footnotes: All lots are sold 'as is/where is' and Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. AUCTION INFORMATION & GUIDE FOR BUYERS Please see the Auction Information and Guide for Buyers at the top of the main sale page (Motorcycles Online - The Summer Sale) for all pertinent information regarding bidder's obligations, viewing, bidding, payment, post-sale collection & transportation.
